This position supports the sustainment and operational monitoring of next-generation cyber defense systems that enable downstream Air Force cyber operations.

The Cyber Infrastructure Specialist serves as a frontline operational support resource, responsible not only for managing incidents and service requests, but also for monitoring system alerts, health indicators, and performance messages to ensure mission systems remain functional and available. This role performs routine maintenance, supports configuration management activities, and identifies potential system degradation before it impacts downstream users.

Working within an operational environment, the Cyber Infrastructure Specialist independently assesses system conditions, manages case backlog, performs initial technical analysis, and coordinates escalation when required to maintain mission continuity. The position supports both internal teams and mission stakeholders, ensuring the cyber defense system remains reliable, compliant, and operationally ready.

**On-Site Requirement: The position requires on-site presence at Joint Base San Antonio.**

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Monitor mission system alerts, health indicators, and operational status messages to ensure continuous availability and functionality of next-generation cyber defense systems

  • Identify, assess, and respond to system-level alerts or degradations, performing initial analysis and corrective actions within established procedures

  • Perform routine system maintenance activities, including service restarts, log review, patch coordination, and scheduled operational checks

  • Execute configuration management tasks in accordance with approved change control processes, ensuring system integrity and compliance

  • Serve as the initial operational support point for incidents and service requests affecting mission systems, providing timely triage and documentation

  • Manage cases within the enterprise service management platform (ServiceNow), ensuring accurate logging, impact assessment, and resolution tracking

  • Assess operational impact and prioritize incidents based on severity, urgency, and mission effect

  • Troubleshoot system functionality, access issues, and integration points to determine root cause or appropriate escalation path

  • Coordinate with engineering teams, system administrators, and mission stakeholders to resolve system outages, performance issues, or configuration discrepancies

  • Contribute to operational documentation, knowledge articles, and standard operating procedures to support consistent service delivery

  • Participate in training and readiness activities to maintain proficiency with evolving cyber mission systems and tools

  • Leverage approved automation and AI-enabled support tools to improve monitoring efficiency, response times, and service quality

Clearance Required:

  • Current active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.

  • Intermediate DoD 8140 work role (521) Cyber Defense Infrastructure Support Specialist certification.  See DoD 8140 Qualification Matrix V2.1; Certification Repository tab: https://www.cyber.mil/dod-workforce-innovation-directorate/dod8140/qualification-matrices for listing of intermediate certifications.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree or equivalent and 4 years of prior relevant experience, or a Master’s with less than 3 years, to operate within the scope contemplated by the level.

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience testing, implementing, deploying, maintaining, and administering enterprise infrastructure hardware and software in an operational environment such as a service desk, mission support center, NOC, SOC platform team, or systems operations organization

  • Experience monitoring system alerts, health dashboards, or operational status indicators in a production environment

  • Experience performing routine system maintenance, service validation, or operational checks to ensure system availability

  • Working knowledge of configuration management principles and experience implementing approved changes in accordance with change control processes

  • Experience troubleshooting enterprise systems, applications, or integrated platforms using structured diagnostic methodologies

  • Familiarity with enterprise service management platforms such as ServiceNow for incident tracking and documentation

  • Working knowledge of operating systems (Windows and/or Linux), endpoint management tools, and enterprise infrastructure concepts

  • Foundational understanding of networking principles and experience supporting environments leveraging Cisco or similar networking technologies

  • Experience supporting cloud-based platforms or hybrid enterprise environments (e.g., Microsoft Azure)

  • Demonstrated ability to assess operational impact, prioritize issues, and manage multiple concurrent tasks in a time-sensitive environment
