Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Customer Support Engineer - Gas Turbines & Power Generation to join our multidisciplinary engineering team.

This is a technical engineering role within the power generation industry, supporting customers with the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and commissioning of large generators, gas turbines, steam turbines and associated auxiliary systems.

 

The successful candidate will work closely with customers, field service teams, engineering and design departments and suppliers to resolve technical issues and ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of power generation equipment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering and technical support for the operation and maintenance of large generators gas turbines, steam turbines and auxiliary systems during normal operations, planned outages and forced outages.
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, verify and maintain mechanical and electrical components, auxiliary systems, control systems and instrumentation.
  • Support gas turbine and steam turbine operational systems, developing broader expertise in rotating equipment and power generation technologies.
  • Carry out on-site commissioning, vibration analysis, combustion analysis, inspection and troubleshooting activities, including preparation of post-outage commissioning and technical reports.
  • Investigate technical issues using sound engineering principles, product knowledge, data analysis and structured problem-solving techniques.
  • Lead and manage Root Cause Analysis (RCA) investigations and develop corrective and preventive actions to address technical issues.
  • Act as the technical liaison between customers, field operations and engineering/design teams, ensuring issues are communicated effectively and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Prepare technical reports, engineering procedures, specifications, presentations and other technical documentation in accordance with engineering standards and company procedures.
  • Support RFQ and Purchase Order (PO) preparation, including development of technical specifications and assistance with vendor qualification and procurement activities.
  • Work with technical proposal engineers to support new business development and customer opportunities.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships through professional, responsive and technically sound communication.
  • Represent the company professionally during customer meetings, site inspections, commissioning activities and vendor interactions.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including the development and revision of Quality Management procedures and engineering practices.
  • Support emergency and unplanned outage activities, including off-hours and weekend work when required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or a related engineering discipline is preferred.
  • Proven professional experience in generator, gas turbine or steam turbine operation, maintenance, repair, service, installation or commissioning is desired.
  • Strong understanding of gas turbine and steam turbine operation and associated power generation systems.
  • Experience in developing and writing technical specifications, engineering documentation and/or proposals.
  • Strong analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex technical issues and identify practical solutions.
  • Excellent technical report writing, communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple technical activities and priorities.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment and collaborate with colleagues, customers and suppliers from different cultures and nationalities.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in business English is required. Other European or Japanese language skills can be an advantage but are not essential.

Skills Required
