Job Description  

The Commercial Underwriting Associate is a customer-focused insurance professional responsible for supporting the Commercial Auto business through a combination of agency service, policy administration, and underwriting support activities. This role serves as a primary point of contact for insureds and independent agents, handling inbound inquiries related to billing, non-premium-bearing endorsements, document requests, policy cancellations, and technical system support.

In addition to delivering exceptional customer service, the Commercial Underwriting Associate plays a critical role in supporting underwriting operations by verifying information, evaluating risk-related data, processing transactions, and assisting with underwriting workflow management. The position requires sound judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to make informed decisions in accordance with company guidelines, underwriting standards, and regulatory requirements.

Success in this role is driven by a commitment to building strong agency relationships, supporting policy retention efforts, and serving as a trusted resource through agency education and partnership.

Candidate Requirements

To best support our agency partners and insureds, we are currently seeking bilingual (English/Spanish) professionals. Candidates must be based in Georgia, Texas, or Florida and reside within a reasonable commuting distance of one of our office locations to support the hybrid work schedule.

About the ROLE 

  • Monitor the suspense and documents uploaded by the agent; ensuring timely processing of non-monied endorsements. 

  • Provide professional phone support for complex billing inquires, ensuring callers receive clear explanations, accurate account information and resolution. 

  • Build and maintain strong agency relationships to support policy retention, including tracking, taking payments, processing pay plan rebuilds, and documenting actions. 

  • Send policy memos that clearly communicate Underwriting requirements and compliance timelines. 

  • Participate in round-robin phone and chat queues to support bilingual agents and insureds with accurate, guideline-consistent assistance. 

  • Collaborate with underwriting, product and sales to stay up to date with improvements. Communicate ideas, thoughts, and concerns with the team. 

  • Ensure internal compliance with regulatory/statutory requirements. 

  • Meet productivity, service level, and quality assurance goals.

  • Makes sound, autonomous decisions based on multiple facts while following guidelines. 

  • Detail-oriented, accurate, team-minded, and professional in communication. 

Required 

  • Education: Undergraduate degree in Risk Management/Insurance, Business, or related field; equivalent experience considered. 

  • Experience: 1-0 years in commercial auto (non-standard) underwriting or closely related P&C roles; knowledge of underwriting principles and statutory requirements. Experience in retail agency space is also acceptable.  

  • Skills: Proficiency with office productivity tools; ability to prioritize and meet service commitments. 

  • Native, fluent, or working proficient in Spanish and English. 

Physical Requirements 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 

Skills Required

  • Undergraduate degree in Risk Management/Insurance, Business, or related field
  • 1-10 years in commercial auto underwriting or closely related P&C roles
  • Proficiency with office productivity tools
