Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly experienced Crewing & Marine Training Manager to lead and elevate our marine training capability across the fleet. This role has a strong focus on designing, delivering and continuously improving maritime training programmes, ensuring our seafarers are competent, compliant and future-ready.
Working closely with vessels, shore teams and external partners, you will ensure training aligns with international maritime standards, safety requirements and evolving operational needs, while also overseeing crewing strategy and marine HR responsibilities.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a senior maritime professional who is passionate about training, capability building and safety at sea.
Marine training leadership (core focus)
Lead the design, delivery and continuous improvement of marine training programmes across the fleet
Develop and implement structured training pathways aligned with STCW, MLC and industry best practice
Partner with Fiji National University and industry stakeholders to develop and enhance maritime curricula
Conduct competency mapping to identify skills gaps and future training needs
Ensure training programmes meet regulatory, safety and operational requirements
Monitor training effectiveness and drive ongoing improvement
Crewing and workforce development
Support workforce planning to ensure vessels are crewed with competent, well-trained personnel
Build internal talent development pathways to strengthen retention and progression
Actively participate in crew selection and placement decisions
Monitor performance and capability of crewing agents and training partners
Marine HR and employee lifecycle
Oversee the employee lifecycle for maritime personnel, including onboarding, performance and development
Support managers with employee relations matters and performance management
Ensure crew appraisals and records are maintained accurately and on time
Drive engagement initiatives onboard to improve morale, productivity and retention
Compliance, safety and governance
Ensure full compliance with STCW, MLC and all applicable maritime legislation
Work closely with Marine HSEQ and Technical teams to support a strong safety culture
Coordinate effective crew briefings, onboarding and vessel familiarisation
Maintain strong relationships with regulators, flag states and industry bodies
Represent the company as part of the Emergency Response Team when required
You are a senior maritime professional with deep operational experience and a strong passion for training, mentoring and developing seafarers.
You will bring:
Master Mariner or equivalent senior maritime certification
10+ years’ experience in maritime operations, training or crewing
- Teaching certification/degree
Senior sailing experience on cargo vessels (Master, Chief Officer, Chief Engineer or 2nd Engineer preferred)
Demonstrated experience developing and delivering maritime training programmes
Strong working knowledge of STCW, MLC and maritime regulatory frameworks
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to influence at all levels
