The Opportunity
The Credit Risk Review (CRR) group is responsible for independently evaluating credit risks of exposures from both lending and non-lending activities to opine upon the effectiveness of first and second lines of defenses’ credit risk management practices and credit quality in fulfillment of regulatory expectations for safety and soundness.

CRR reports administratively through Enterprise Audit, functionally to the Boards of Directors, and is governed by the CRR Policy and the Interagency Guidance for CRR Systems.

The group conducts its work through the execution of its programs in adherence with the CRR business plan. The CRR Programs include Continuous Monitoring, Periodic Reviews, and Portfolio Assessments.

Results are reported to executive and senior management, bank credit risk management committee, and the Boards of Directors.

The Retail CRR Team drives the independent CRR Programs covering the retail credit risks in USAA Federal Savings Bank, which includes Auto, Credit Card, Deposits, Mortgage, Secured, and Unsecured credit risks.
This position is responsible for the quality and timely execution of the three programs (Continuous Monitoring, Periodic Reviews, and Portfolio Assessments) for the retail credit risks in USAA Federal Savings Bank.

Applying data analytics support and techniques, synthesize and aggregate retail credit risk data across the banks.

Through ongoing monitoring, Periodic Reviews, and overall credit risk assessments of retail credit exposures, review the lifecycle stages of credit analysis, portfolio management, default management, and loss mitigation to conclude independently upon inherent credit risk, quality of credit risk management, individual and aggregate credit risks, and direction of credit risk.

Ensure CRR’s independent coverage of the retail credit risks is appropriate.

Ensure appropriateness of credit risk policies and procedures governing retail credit risks and the consistent application thereof

Independently opine on the adequacy of underwriting analysis, appropriateness of credit decisions, and efficiency of the credit management process supporting credit or asset quality, including sufficiency of controls in place to mitigate credit risk to USAA

Independently monitors credit risk trends in the retail exposures, attends relevant meetings, and establishes and maintains relationships with internal partners responsible for credit approval and credit risk management

Recommend and assist in growing CRR Policy and procedures where needed
We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, or Charlotte, NC. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
What you'll do:

Executes CRR work and analysis, including development of test objective and approach, to achieve sound conclusions. Executes assigned CRR test steps accurately, timely, and professionally, in support of the CRR business plan and priorities. Provides conclusions and recommendations to Reviewer-in-Charge (RIC) and takes appropriate action with recommendations.

Reviews, analyzes, and interprets data collected from multiple sources to ensure valid conclusions are drawn during testing and risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and reported. Reports and escalates credit risks to the RIC or Senior Review Manager.

Attends, participates, and contributes in team activities such as planning, scoping, business walkthroughs, review of risk assessment, and testing for assigned areas of responsibility.

Develops, maintains, and demonstrates an understanding of CRR policies, procedures, guidelines, and strategic direction, in tandem with regulatory guidance.

Accountable for own workpaper documentation within quality standards, timely and accurately. Demonstrates understanding of portfolio issues, trends, and root causes to manage credit portfolios effectively. Identifies root causes to develop clear and concise recommendations.

Communicates effectively, verbally and written, to share findings and results with the RIC, team members, and stakeholders.

Contributes in teams to identify, assess, aggregate, and mitigate current and emerging credit risk events.

Applies increasingly mature knowledge to participate in producing analytical material for discussions with teams to evaluate credit risk and monitor adherence with policies and strategies.

Collaborates closely with the RIC and Data Analytics colleagues to fulfill data requests, validate accuracy, and perform testing and analysis. Works within the CRR team to understand and define opportunities and recommends solutions by analyzing increasingly complex data and providing key insights to inform decisions.

Monitors the credit risk environment and provides effective challenge to internal and external stakeholders to ensure that exposures are kept at acceptable levels.
What you have:

Bachelor's degree in business or a relevant field such as Finance, Economics, Accounting, or Business Administration. Four additional years of related experience beyond minimum required may be substituted in lieu of bachelor’s a degree.

2 years’ CRR, audit, credit risk management, credit underwriting, or regulatory experience in banking or financial services.

Experience applying risk, audit, or compliance acumen in a business or professional environment.
-
Experience effectively communicating with colleagues and business partners.
-
Ability to apply policies, procedures, and guidelines to work product deliverables.

Experience reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting data collected from multiple sources and use critical thinking skills to draw conclusions

CRR and/or Audit experience in the financial industry

Proven track record to lead projects optimally with minimal direct supervision

Knowledge of credit risk trends, combining quantitative and qualitative methods

What we offer:
Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $61,110 - $116,800. Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
