What Is the Opportunity?
The Credit Analyst, Contract Surety position provides an opportunity to build a unique and successful career within a highly specialized niche of the insurance industry. Analyze financial information and assess risk of contractors and related companies. Build and maintain productive relationships with surety and insurance brokers. Contribute to consistently achieving planned financial results through superior service, quality underwriting and responsiveness to new business submissions. Interact/collaborate with a team of colleagues and other critical internal and external associates. This position leads to roles that include sales and business development responsibilities.What Will You Do?
- Underwrite and assess risk for contract surety bonds and bonding facilities.
- Analyze and interpret financial statements and forecasting future performance.
- Understand a contractor’s operations, experience and business plan.
- Complete formal annual account reviews.
- Underwrite bond requests and create/propose solutions for challenges which arise within the underwriting context.
- Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in other parts of the organization.
- Enrollment in the Associateship in Canadian Surety Bonding (ACSB) program offered through the Surety Association of Canada and the University of Toronto.
- Develop relationships with assigned brokers and clients to establish a strong foundation for all business dealings.
- Demonstrate superior customer service standards.
- Work tactically with brokers to ensure they have an appropriate level of understanding of Travelers’ objectives.
- Participate in industry functions to increase visibility in the marketplace, network with key stakeholders and increase knowledge of the industry.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
- Ability to apply critical thinking skills while proactively identifying underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges, and analyzing available information to make timely recommendations in alignment with our risk appetite.
- Strong financial acumen, including the ability to analyze financial statements.
- Communication skills with the ability to successfully collaborate with our broker partners.
- Manage range of complex and time sensitive tasks efficiently and effectively.
What is a Must Have?
- Bachelor's degree with a business discipline specialization in finance, accounting or economics.

- Retirement: Travelers provides a core contribution of 3% of your total eligible earnings to your Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (“DPSP”). Travelers also matches your savings plan contribution dollar-for-dollar up to 5% of base pay.
