The Pharmacy Delivery Services Liaison is responsible for the safe, timely, and compliant transportation of specialty pharmaceuticals, including high-value and temperature-sensitive medications to WVU Medicine patients and staff. The role also involves utilizing logistics planning software to optimize delivery routes and ensure compliance with handling protocols. A high level of accountability for the secure and efficient delivery of expensive and sensitive products is essential. Performs a wide range of technical functions in support of operations Specialty Pharmacy & Home Infusion in those aspects of pharmacy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.    High School Diploma or equivalent.
2.    Valid driver’s license with good driving history.
EXPERIENCE:
1.    Two (2) years of courier experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.    Experience in healthcare logistics or transportation.
EXPERIENCE:
1.    Two years prior experience in pharmaceutical delivery, medical courier services, or handling high-value goods is preferred.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position.  They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties.  Other duties may be assigned.
1.    Collect and deliver specialty and home infusion pharmaceutical products, including high-value medications, controlled substances, and temperature-sensitive drugs, to healthcare facilities, pharmacies, or patients' homes.
2.    Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations to limit drug diversion, including collecting prescription hard copies, reviewing government issued photo ID’ etc.
3.    Cooperate with other pharmacy staff members when planning and organizing daily delivery services.
4.    Collect patient information to include: verification of person delivered to, signature and collection of payment information.
5.    Follow all applicable regulations, including HIPAA, DOT, USP, and FDA guidelines, for the transport of pharmaceuticals.
6.    Collaborate with pharmacy staff to collect appropriate prescription and patient information prior to dispensing medication.
7.    Ensure secure handling and transportation of expensive medications to prevent loss, damage, or theft.
8.    Maintain a detailed chain of custody for all deliveries to safeguard product integrity.
9.    Provide professional and courteous service to clients, patients, and healthcare providers.
10.    As part of the delivery process, provide educational materials about the medication (when applicable) and inform patients about their rights, handling instructions, and services provided. Offer personalized counseling to patients under the supervision of a pharmacist.
11.    Follows up with Director or Manager on issues that cannot be resolved by coworkers or that require immediate attention. (i.e. inclement weather, company vehicle issues).
12.    Handles customer complaints in a fair and empathetic manner.
13.    Notifies purchasing personnel when supplies are needed.          
14.    Conduct routine inspections and maintenance to ensure the vehicle is in proper working condition.
15.    Restock delivery and shipping supplies in the Pharmacy’s warehouse.
16.    Maintains records for items delivered and mailed from pharmacy including, but not limited to, prescriptions, supplies, and non-prescription medications; maintains logs for medication owed to patients in order to track correct disposition of owed medications.
17.    Ensures that anyone not employed by the Pharmacy does not have access to nor is allowed in company vehicle during any delivery or in the presence of medications that have not been delivered to patients. 
18.    Utilizing logistics planning software in coordination with the manager to optimize delivery routes and ensure compliance with handling protocols
19.    Identifies, documents, and reports field coordinates as well as address and coordinate discrepancies as they arise
20.    Weekend call may be required as needed.
21.    Relays offer to counseling and additional information to patient/patient representatives and have same validate acceptance/declination of offer.
22.    Certain duties cannot be assigned to the Courier because these duties or privileges can only be performed by pharmacists, interns, and technicians. These restrictions are regulated at state and federal levels and must be followed closely: 
Only pharmacists can receive oral prescriptions from prescribers or prescribers’ authorized designees.      
          (This refers primarily to new telephone prescriptions).
•Only pharmacists can consult with prescribers or prescribers’ designees about patients’ prescriptions.
•Only pharmacists can provide confidential patient information to other health professionals or insurance companies.
•Only pharmacists can check medications before dispensing them to patients. (In states where technicians can prepare or package prescriptions, they do so under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.)
•Only pharmacists can consult with patients about prescribed medication use and other health issues.
•Only pharmacist, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy interns may directly handle, count, and label medications
•Courier may only enter the pharmacy proper if accompanied by a pharmacist
