Counsel
$87,893- $128,253 minimum starting pay
Job Level: Manager
Shelter maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in geographic location, education, training, skills, relevant work experience, business needs and market demands. Please remember that this is the minimum starting base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the position.
What You Will Be Doing:
Provide insurance coverage legal counsel to the Companies’ Departments and Corporate Committees to develop, draft, revise, and launch new and existing policy forms and endorsements that address emerging risks and ensure that the Companies' products meet the needs of our insureds while aligning with both the Companies' strategy and regulatory requirements. Research state and federal laws related to insurance coverage.
What We're Looking For:
- Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work well with others and prioritize critical, important, and time-sensitive work.
- Ability to develop critical relationships with, and respect from, a diverse group including internal and external attorneys, the Companies’ employees, agents, and management.
- Law degree with a current law license and professional mastery and thorough knowledge of the areas of law in the attorney’s responsibility.
- Experience in litigation and general civil law practice and two to three years on-the-job training to develop thorough working knowledge of the Companies' operations.
- Continuing legal education as required and continuing education concerning specific legal areas, such as insurance law, bankruptcy, consumer protection, EEOC, etc.
- Works under general supervision and is accountable for providing accurate and timely legal advice and assistance to the Senior Corporate Counsel, Assistant General Counsel, General Counsel, and other corporate management.
- Exercises considerable discretion in determining approach to researching and resolving problems and in developing legal positions and advice.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
