Overview
Stelic is seeking a Cost Engineer with at least 5 years of experience to oversee project cost performance from budget establishment through financial closeout for a major data center project. The role ensures cost visibility, forecast reliability, disciplined change management, and alignment between cost, scope, and schedule. The Cost Engineer will work closely with project management, scheduling, procurement, and finance teams to maintain financial control throughout the project lifecycle.
This role is primarily remote with up to 25% travel required per month.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the development and validation of project budgets and establish the approved cost baseline aligned with defined scope and schedule milestones. This includes structuring the cost breakdown consistent with the work breakdown structure, documenting assumptions, and ensuring alignment with contract values and funding allocations.
• Monitor project financial performance by tracking actual expenditures, commitments, and accruals against the approved budget. Ensure cost data accuracy and prepare structured reports that clearly present financial status, variances, trends, and forecasts.
• Develop and maintain forward-looking cost projections, including Estimate at Completion and Estimate to Complete. This responsibility involves analyzing cost trends, identifying financial exposures, and providing updated forecasts that reflect current project conditions.
• Administer the project change log and evaluate the financial impact of proposed and approved scope modifications. This role ensures approved changes are integrated into the budget and forecast and monitors contingency usage.
• Prepare and update cash flow projections based on forecasted spend and procurement timelines. The role monitors funding utilization and identifies potential funding gaps or deviations from planned expenditure profiles.
• Support procurement and contract administration activities by reviewing financial elements of bids and change orders. The role assists with financial reconciliation during project closeout to ensure accuracy and completeness.
Requirements
• 5 years experience in project cost control, cost engineering, or project controls within the construction management or capital project environment.
• Proven experience in Cost Estimation for large scale construction projects.
• Demonstrated experience supporting large scale construction projects through the full lifecycle, from budget development through financial closeout.
• Proven experience establishing and maintaining cost baselines aligned with scope and schedule.
• Experience developing and managing Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) aligned with Work Breakdown Structures (WBS).
• Extensive experience preparing and maintaining Estimate at Completion (EAC), Estimate to Complete (ETC), and monthly cost forecasts.
• Experience administering and maintaining project change logs and evaluating the cost impact of scope changes.
• Strong background supporting procurement processes, bid evaluations, and change order cost reviews.
• Experience supporting project funding management and developing cash flow forecasts.
• Experience participating in financial reconciliation and closeout processes on construction projects.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail, including the ability to interpret financial data and clearly explain cost drivers, variances, and trends.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills including structured documentation and reporting discipline.
• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

Additional Details
This is a remote-first position that will require up to one week a month (25%) travel to the client site in the greater Milwaukee Wisconsin area.
