We are looking for a Cost Accountant to join our team remotely in the greater Chandler, AZ area. This role will be supporting primarily our Chandler, AZ facility, with additional support for our Lafayette, GA location. We are anticipating roughly 20% annual travel.
Position Summary:The Cost Accountant plays a key role in supporting operational excellence across our manufacturing operations. This position is responsible for product cost accounting, manufacturing performance analysis, and providing actionable financial insights to plant and operations leadership. The ideal candidate will combine strong analytical and accounting capabilities with the ability to build strong partnerships across the business to help drive efficiency, improve margins, and support operational goals.
Key Responsibilities:Cost Accounting & Financial Analysis- Maintain and update standard costs for raw materials, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods within the ERP system.
- Partner with Operations to review and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings.
- Monitor, analyze, and report manufacturing variances including material usage, labor efficiency, overhead absorption, and scrap.
- Reconcile inventory accounts and support accurate cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting.
- Support month-end close activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and inventory variance analysis.
- Prepare and analyze cost roll-ups for new and existing products.
- Assist with physical inventory counts and cycle counts in partnership with Operations teams.
- Support production supervisors and plant leadership through financial analysis and operational insights.
- Translate financial data into meaningful recommendations to support business decision-making.
- Partner with manufacturing teams to identify cost savings opportunities and operational efficiencies, including Continuous Improvement and Cost Optimization initiatives.
- Participate in daily and weekly production meetings to understand plant performance drivers and operational challenges.
- Support capital expenditure requests through financial justification and post-project ROI analysis.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to strengthen cost controls and financial reporting processes.
- Support KPI tracking and plant-level performance reporting initiatives.
- Provide financial analysis to support lean manufacturing, waste reduction, and productivity improvement efforts.
- Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 3–5 years of cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment required.
- Strong understanding of standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory accounting principles.
- Preferred:
- Building materials industry experience preferred.
- Experience working with manufacturing ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, Epicor, or Sage preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proven ability to collaborate and influence cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial analysis tools.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Combination office and manufacturing plant environment with occasional exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
- Annual travel expectation of 20%. Occasional travel to plant locations may be required.
