Job Title: Cost Accountant
Job Summary:
The Cost Accountant supports the accounting and finance team by assisting with cost analysis, inventory tracking, and financial reporting. This role focuses on gathering and analyzing cost data, maintaining accurate records, and supporting month-end close activities while developing core cost accounting skills.
Responsibilities
- Assist in analyzing manufacturing and operational costs (labor, materials, overhead)
- Support month-end close processes, including journal entries and reconciliations
- Maintain and validate standard costs and assist with cost updates
- Track inventory movements, cycle counts, and WIP (work-in-process) balances
- Perform basic variance analysis and investigate discrepancies
- Support preparation of financial and cost reports for management review
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
- Ensure accuracy of cost data in ERP/accounting systems
- Collaborate with operations, purchasing, and production teams to validate cost inputs
- Participate in internal audits and compliance activities
Academic Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in:
- Accounting
- Finance
- or related field
- 0–3 years of accounting or cost accounting experience
- Internship or manufacturing exposure preferred
Required Skills & Experience
- Basic understanding of cost accounting and GAAP principles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs)
- Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) preferred
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
