The Team:
Morningstar's Technology Program Delivery team manages projects for Global Corporate Technology across Infrastructure, Employee Experience, and Corporate Systems, as well as acquisition integrations, Information Security initiatives and office/data center buildouts.
The Role:
We're looking for a highly motivated, detail-oriented Associate Project Manager to support the delivery of technology projects within Corporate Systems and Employee Experience. This is an entry point into our project management career track.
The ideal candidate is a strong partner to project stakeholders, a clear communicator, and a fast learner who's eager to build a deep understanding of Morningstar's product offerings and Corporate Technology services. You'll thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, bring solid problem-solving instincts, and take ownership of your work — while learning from senior PMs and program leads as you grow into greater autonomy and scope.
This role is based in Chicago, and we are in-office 4 days/week.
Responsibilities:
- Document and track key project information, including objectives, assumptions, issues, risks, milestones, success criteria, and in/out-of-scope deliverables.
- Document tasks, identify dependencies, and help build and maintain milestone/task schedules.
- Support delivery of assigned projects on time, within budget, and in line with stakeholder expectations.
- Manage technology projects from definition through implementation, applying a consistent project management framework; follow the project intake process and help prioritize work according to company objectives and resource availability.
- Support project leadership through consultation, collaboration, problem-solving, and clear communication — with growing ownership of decision-making as experience builds.
- Help review project design, business goals, KPIs, and financial projections; prepare summary slides, tables, and presentations for stakeholder audiences.
- Serve as a key point of coordination and communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate with a matrixed project team, building the skills to influence and align team members toward common goals.
- Analyze project details to help surface issues and risks; apply basic business analysis methods to drive clarity when needed.
- Track and communicate project status, issues, and risks to stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, escalating appropriately.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- 1–3 years of relevant experience (project coordination, project management, business analysis, or related technology roles)
- A process mindset and strong teamwork skills
- A collaborative, service-oriented approach to leadership
- PMP (or in progress) and/or certification in Asana or other project management tools is a plus.
- Working knowledge of network infrastructure, IT, and corporate applications
- Familiarity with Excel, MS Project, and other project management tools
- Strong presentation skills, with the ability to prepare and walk stakeholders through materials
- Ability to work independently to generate, synthesize, and analyze data, reports, and tables
- Strong technical proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
- Excellent verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Growing ability to develop and monitor project plans, mitigate risk, and resolve issues, with a desire to take on increasing scope over time
