Job Components:

Audit Strategy, Risk Assessment & Planning

  • Perform annual and continuous entity-level risk assessments across the enterprise to set department audit objectives and priorities
  • Build and maintain a dynamic, analytics-driven audit plan that reallocates field audit coverage as risk indicators change, rather than relying solely on a fixed annual calendar
  • Present the annual audit plan and control tower risk methodology to Finance, Operations Senior Leadership and the Enterprise Risk Committee

Control Tower: Data Analytics & Fraud Risk Monitoring

  • Own the internal audit “control tower”: a centralized risk-scoring and monitoring capability that continuously ingests transactional, financial, point-of-sale/route, inventory, and expense data from across all field locations
  • Develop and maintain fraud-indicator and exception-based analytics — e.g., cash-handling anomalies, inventory shrinkage patterns, unusual credit memos and returns, route settlement discrepancies, duplicate payments, vendor and payroll anomalies, and T&E red flags — to surface locations, individuals, or transactions warranting audit attention
  • Partner with IT teams to source, automate, and refine the data feeds, models, and dashboards that power the control tower
  • Translate analytics output into a prioritized, risk-ranked queue of field audit targets, and maintain a clear, defensible methodology for how targets are scored and selected
  • Continuously validate and tune fraud-indicator models based on confirmed audit findings and outcomes, closing the feedback loop between field results and the analytics that generated them

Risk-Based Field Audit Coordination

  • Coordinate and schedule risk-based field audits, directing resources from the Operations team to execute on-site audit procedures at locations flagged by the control tower
  • Develop standardized field audit protocols, checklists, and testing procedures that field operations personnel can execute consistently, with Corporate Audit providing training, oversight, and quality review
  • Establish escalation protocols for high-risk or suspected-fraud findings identified, coordinating as needed with HR, Legal, and Senior Leadership
  • Feed field audit results back into the control tower analytics to close the loop and continuously refine future targeting

Audit Execution

  • Conduct and oversee operational, financial, and compliance audit projects across corporate and field locations
  • Document business processes and key internal controls; assess and test the design and operating effectiveness of controls
  • Advance controls testing — including greater use of data analytics and continuous auditing techniques
  • Ensure audit testing uses appropriate sampling and data-analysis techniques consistent with IIA standards
  • Generate value-added recommendations to strengthen the overall internal control environment

Reporting & Stakeholder Management

  • Prepare timely, data-supported audit reports and control tower risk dashboards
  • Follow up on management action plans and mitigation commitments through to timely closure
  • Partner closely with key stakeholders to build buy-in on audit findings and see remediation efforts through to completion

Team & Development

  • Coordinate and supervise internal audit work performed by internal staff, Field Operations resources, and third-party providers, maintaining costs within budget
  • Perform special examinations and investigations — including fraud investigations surfaced through the control tower — and other reviews requested by executive management
  • Pursue professional development (internal and external training, professional certifications) and share knowledge to grow the Internal Audit function's data analytics and fraud-detection capabilities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree preferably in Accounting, Finance, Data Analytics, Business Administration or related field
  • Minimum of 6+ years of progressive audit experience (combination of external/internal audit experience preferred)
  • Experience developing and executing an audit plan for a large, multi-location organization; field-based distribution or retail network experience strongly preferred
  • Professional Qualifications; CIA, CFE, or CISA a plus — CFE strongly preferred given the role's fraud-analytics focus
  • Working knowledge of fraud schemes common to field-based distribution operations (cash handling, inventory shrinkage, route settlement, T&E, vendor fraud)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present complex analytics to non-technical and executive audience
  • Strong relationship-management and influencing skills; proven ability to coordinate effectively with Field Operations leadership and personnel who are not direct reports.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently.

Scope Data:

  • Responsible for developing and managing the risk-based internal audit plan, prioritizing audit resources, and coordinating internal staff, Field Operations personnel, and third-party providers within budget.
  • Provides audit coverage across corporate functions and a geographically dispersed, multi-location distribution network, with audit priorities driven by enterprise risk assessments and ongoing data analytics.
  • Analyzes financial, operational, transactional, inventory, point-of-sale, route settlement, payroll, vendor, and expense data to identify financial exposure, control weaknesses, and potential fraud.
  • Oversees audit planning, testing, documentation, reporting, and quality review; provides guidance and oversight to Field Operations resources executing standardized audit procedures.
  • Partners with Finance, Field Operations, IT, HR, Legal, and executive leadership to communicate audit findings, escalate significant risks, review remediation plans, and monitor corrective actions through completion.
  • Directs and supervises the work of individual contributor(s) on the audit team.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to sustain posture in a seated position for prolonged periods of time.
  • Regularly required to use hands to grasp or handle and talk and hear.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Periodic travel required, targeted to field locations based on risk analytics or fraud investigations per management request

Note: We do not accept resumes from headhunters, placement agencies, or other suppliers that have not signed a formal agreement with us.
