Role Summary:

Prepare and execute campaigns to optimize the cost and capacity of GTT’s core network comprised of leased wavelengths and dark fiber (aka dark fibre) services. 

Job Scope/Supervision:

The Core Network Planner will work cooperatively with other company departments as required, including Engineering, Carrier Relations, Operations, Finance, Business Analysis, Data Integrity.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Source potential vendors. Develop and present negotiation strategies. Obtain quotes. Negotiate price, delivery, routes, and other aspects of leased wavelength (10/100/400/800G long-haul terrestrial and submarine) and dark fiber (metro point-to-point, not IRU, not GPON) services. 
  • Organize and evaluate related datasets from a variety of internal and external sources (order inventory, billing, monitoring, GIS) to formulate leasing plans and strategies. 
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering to meet the goals (capacity, diversity, latency, delivery interval, etc.) of the organization. Submit pricing, route, lead time, etc. results to Engineering for evaluation. 
  • Work in partnership with internal Supplier Management and directly with external vendors to obtain the best pricing, billing, and service level availability.

Required Experience/Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience in telecommunications overseeing cost and capacity in a supplier or vendor management role.
  • Strong working knowledge of backbone providers, backbone types (waves and dark fiber) and backbone price points and the ability to apply that knowledge to a variety of situations around the world. 
  • Prior people management experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational and Project Management skills (concepts, ability to multitask), ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, listen attentively, apply appropriate grammar, and integrate large volumes of information from multiple sources.
  • Has strong analytical, negotiation, and inter-personal skills along with the ability to work cross-functionally across various geographic regions ultimately to identify, build, and manage ongoing relationships with telecommunications carriers.
  • Meets deadlines, works independently, accountable, maintains focus, punctual.
  • Ability to work and show positive results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel, pivot tables, report generation.
