We are seeking an experienced leader to drive the growth of Guardian’s Core Annuities business. The successful candidate will oversee a team responsible for business development and product strategy of our core annuity business, our growth strategies in the near term and meeting our Journey to 2030 ambitions. The job will ensure that the annuity business will have modern, efficient and customer friendly purchase and service experiences, while building and maintaining a deep and broad product portfolio while ensuring strong capital solutioning for future growth. The Head of Annuity business will work with Guardian’s Distribution leaders and partners including GAs, FRs, Brokers and PAS. Business development skills and existing distribution relationships will be key for success in this role.
The role requires a strategic problem solver with a strong background in annuities and a proven track record of driving profitable growth. The successful candidate will have a strong leadership and coaching acumen and be highly adept in identifying opportunities for improvement in execution and managing relationships with internal and external partners.
You Will:
- Develop and execute commercial strategies to drive business growth, including:
- Placement in all distribution channels: general agency (GA) system, other 3rd party platforms and PAS.
- Manage overall economics and P&L of products across all distribution platforms.
- Lead product innovation, development, pricing, management, and filing support.
- Drive in-force profitability and manage long-term capital to optimize return on capital (RoC) and earnings emergence.
- Understand market demands, trends and the impact to product design. Have a deep knowledge of the competitive landscape, competitive positioning, and trends to inform product designs.
- Partner across Individual Markets to ensure maximum value creation and guide purchase processes.
- Guide in-force servicing to ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
- Implement and support technology solutions to enhance business operations.
- Ensure all business activities comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Grow proprietary sales profitably.

You Have:
- Proven experience in the annuities business, with a consistent track record of driving growth and profitability.
- A strong P&L orientation and experience managing operating expenses to maximize P&L while managing risk
- A minimum of 10 years of management experience in financial services.
- A Master’s degree or equivalent experience is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements in the annuities industry.
- Experience with technology implementation and support in the financial services industry.
- Background in product innovation and development.
- Excellence in organizational management with the ability to hire, coach, develop, and retain a strong team.
- Strong problem-solving, verbal and written communication, planning, organizational, and presentation skills.
Salary Range:
$275,000 - $315,000
The salary range reflected above is a good faith estimate of base pay for the primary location of the position. The salary for this position ultimately will be determined based on the education, experience, knowledge, and abilities of the successful candidate. In addition to salary, this role may also be eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation.
