The primary purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive and safe open recreational programming in the NBSRC pool and environs and must include the knowledge and training required to hire, train, supervise and evaluate the lifeguard staff for Campus Recreation. This position will assess, evaluate and implement risk management procedures as needed and will create and implement safe and effective group and individual aquatics, safety and Campus Rec-wide instructional programming. Typical hiring range for this position is $45,000.00 to $48,000.00 commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Qualifications:
Required: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Physical Education, Sports Medicine or a related field and typically 1 or more years’ experience in aquatic management/pool supervision and safety programming/supervision in a collegiate, community, or private environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to be dynamic and self-motivated and ability to supervise a large staff and foster continuous process/quality improvement in the staff. The individual must enjoy participating in a collaborative work environment with student learning as the focus.
  • Demonstrated student-client centered philosophy and approach. Must also be able to interact easily with members of the University community and articulate the role of fitness and wellness in a university setting.
  • The desired individual must possess outstanding supervision, communication and interpersonal skills, and have the ability to work positively and professionally with community and college members. 
  • Ability to travel regularly within the State of Maine, normally requiring a valid driver's license

Preferred: 

  • Master’s degree. 
  • Certifications: Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Training, WSI Instructor/Instructor Training, CPR, First Aid, AED Instructor/Trainer, Certified Pool Operator.
