Job Description:
Provide controls engineering to support and lead new product development and custom application projects as well as develop electronic control solutions using current technology that meet market and/or customer requirements. The position will assist and lead troubleshooting efforts performing service-related tasks to support products in the field.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Create electrical designs and new programs for new machines and machine upgrades following industry standards.

Troubleshoot electrical and software designs in-house and for other BW Flexible Systems and customer sites.

Work with vendors to assure quality and best value for specified electronic components.

Determine and execute a plan to achieve desired approval agency certifications.
-
Create and maintain bills of material for machine control designs.
-
Ensure all documentation is updated to reflect controls changes.

Manage machine controls section of a machine contract from order entry to machine commissioning, including warranty resolution.

Assist both internal and external customers with problem solving.

Provide controls engineering and quoting assistance to applications engineering sales team.

Continued education in latest technical and engineering developments, technology, techniques and components.

Manage time to estimate and meet project timelines.

Design and develop complex electrical engineering and functional controls system architecture and specifications with input from sales personnel, customers, service technicians, assembly technicians.

Apply ingenuity in programming, hardware/software integration and system diagnostics to support machine-based control systems.

Prepare schematics, assemblies, detailed drawings and bills of material for complex projects

Develop, prepare and maintain comprehensive program documentation in areas related to diagnostics, information systems, data collection and communication with other peripheral equipment.

Research and stay current on latest developments concerning system architectures that could be implemented as parts of machine control systems.

Act as a liaison to production assembly, service and system suppliers and furnish documentation and/or assist in the check-out, machine installation and startup of complex mechanical functionality and control system software.

Interface directly with customers to identify customer expectations and specifications.

Interface with suppliers to select and develop the best available technical solutions

Troubleshoot and resolve malfunctions; participate on team to analyze control system malfunctions; make recommendations that will improve efficiency or quality of operations

May participate in set-up and commissioning of new facilities or upgrading of existing facilities

Provide guidance in the production of system operation manuals and diagnostic aids for customer and service technician use.

May lead, mentor or coach less experienced team members.

May travel to customer sites to lead or support testing, commissioning and/or startup of industrial equipment.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
-
A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline and 8-10+ years related experience.
-
AutoCAD proficiency.
-
8+ years experience in PLC and HMI design.
-
8+ years in controls engineering with a focus on ladder logic programming.
Nice to Have Qualifications:

Professional Engineering Registration

Allen Bradley control systems experience
-
Motion control systems (servo) experience
-
Knowledgeable of the National Electrical Code (NEC)

Experience with materials handling and packaging industry
Other Requirements:
-
Travel up to 20% at times including some international travel.

Lift, move or otherwise transfer items up to 30lbs occasionally.

Occasional exposure to typical machine shop physical hazards.
