Job Description:

The Controls Engineer is responsible for the design, development, programming, integration, commissioning, and support of electrical, control, software, robotics, and automation systems. The role encompasses both hardware and software aspects of machine control, including electrical design, PLC programming, HMI development, robot integration, drive configuration, motion control, and system commissioning. The Controls Engineer will support the complete machine lifecycle from concept and design through installation, startup, and ongoing customer support.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Design, develop and implement both hardware and software solutions for automated production

equipment.

  • Design electrical control panels, I/O architectures, safety systems, and field device integration.
  • Perform testing, setup, commissioning, and optimization of control systems, drive systems, and robotic applications of new facilities or upgrading of existing facilities.
  • Use engineering skills and knowledge to assist customers with control systems problems for both remote and on-site technical support to customers and service technicians.
  • Build and maintain a technical knowledge base by creating, maintaining and updating technical documents/procedures.
  • Logging development processes, code changes, and technical specifications for future reference.
  • Anticipate potential problems and provide solutions; detect unusual problems and promptly report to the supervisor.
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve technical/logistical issues.  Gather relevant information to ensure smooth transitions to other departments.
  • Participate in a team to analyze control system malfunctions; make recommendations that will improve efficiency or quality of operations.
  • Provide guidance in the production of system operation manuals and diagnostic aids.
  • Work closely with the engineering and product development teams to communicate client feedback and contribute to product improvement.
  • Stay up to date on the latest developments in system architecture that could be implemented as parts of machine control systems.

QUALIFICATIONS & ABILITIES

  • Controls Engineering Degree and ideally 3+ years’ experience in an electrical or control systems engineering role, within manufacturing/ plant industries.
  • Experience with both electrical hardware design and automation software development.
  • Familiarity with Electrical design CAD tools (all sites use EPLAN).
  • Experience in Developing, programming and testing PLCs (all sites use TIA portal)
  • Experience with industrial robotics hardware and software programming.
  • Experience configuring, commissioning, and troubleshooting servo drives and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
  • Understanding of motion control, motor sizing, drive technologies, safety circuits, and machine integration.
  • Knowledge of industrial networks and communication protocols between PLCs, robots, drives
  • Ability to collaborate effectively, partnering across multiple departments, with a capacity for listening and absorbing different points of view.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and passion for connecting with others.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Use judgement to make complex decisions to solve difficult and complex problems.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites up to 25% of the time.
  • Fluency in Danish, and working proficiency in English (spoken and written)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This is an office position associated with a manufacturing facility, with travel to customer plants. The employee must be able to correctly wear and use any Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required by the employer when in manufacturing areas.
