Controller

AcuityMD is a software and data platform that accelerates access to medical technologies. Each year, the FDA approves ~6,000 new medical devices. Our platform helps MedTech companies get these products to physicians more effectively so they can improve patient care with the latest technology. We're backed by Benchmark, Redpoint, ICONIQ Growth, and Ajax Health and we help MedTech companies identify how their products are used, understand why outcomes vary, and identify opportunities where physicians can better serve their patients.

We’re looking for a Controller to lead our accounting and finance operations. In this role, you’ll build the foundation on which critical business decisions are made, and ensure proper controls are in place for efficient and compliant financial operations. You’ll own the monthly close process for timely financial reporting, the general ledger and our chart of accounts. You’ll play a critical part in our annual planning and budgeting process. And you’ll help improve our cash conversion cycle by optimizing our accounts receivable and accounts payable operations. We currently work with an outsourced accounting partner (you’ll play a part in insourcing), so you will be our first pure finance leadership hire.

Responsibilities

  • Accounting & Financial Reporting:
    • Own the monthly close process to deliver timely and accurate three-statement financial reports.
    • Own the general ledger and ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
    • Maintain and update the chart of accounts to enable clear and efficient financial reporting.
    • Oversee revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 and stock-based compensation accounting
  • Budget & Financial Planning:
    • Partner with FP&A and BizOps teams on the annual budgeting process.
    • Manage budget-to-actuals reporting, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
  • Cash Management:
    • Ensure efficient use of working capital through accounts receivable (AR) and accounts payable (AP) oversight.
    • Manage cash flow, optimize liquidity, and oversee banking relationships.
  • Payroll:
    • Oversee the accurate and timely processing of payroll and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
    • Manage commission calculations and payments in coordination with revenue operations.
  • Audit Preparation & Compliance:
    • Lead audit preparation and support, serving as the primary liaison with external auditors.
    • Ensure compliance with tax regulations at the federal, state, and local levels, including corporate income tax, sales tax, payroll tax, and nexus compliance.
    • Stay updated on tax laws and oversee accurate and timely tax filings.
  • Process Improvements & Controls:
    • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline accounting and financial operations.
    • Establish and maintain robust internal controls to mitigate financial risks.
  • Team Management and Leadership:
    • Lead the accounting and finance operations team, fostering a high performance culture.
    • Hire, onboard, and train new accounting professionals based on business need.

Your Profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA strongly preferred).
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with prior experience as a Controller or senior finance leader in a high-growth, venture-backed SaaS environment.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, including experience with RevRec (ASC 606) and stock-based compensation accounting.
  • Proven experience with audit preparation and tax compliance.
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting systems and Excel.
  • Experience in partnering with FP&A on budgeting and cash forecasting initiatives.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and manage teams effectively.

Nice to Haves

  • You‘re passionate about the healthcare and / or the medical device industry
  • Willingness to travel domestically 2-4x per year to company off-sites
