Position: Controller

Reporting To: Chief Financial Officer

Location: Chapel Hill, NC

Compensation Information: $110,000-$140,000, depending on qualifications, plus bonus potential and benefits

Position Summary:
Well is seeking a Controller to join our innovative, digital health business. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will be responsible for overseeing accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial statements.  The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader supporting financial/tax reporting, business planning, and administration.  The Controller should bring a sound financial perspective to all company activities and be comfortable in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee accounting practices, including accounting department, financial statements, tax and audit functions
  • Support monthly and year-end internal accounting operations, including preparation of accurate and timely financial statements
  • Assist with implementation and maintenance of robust set of financial management/administrative systems and processes
  • Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and expense management/reimbursement processes 
  • Collaborate to provide support on financial planning, budgeting and forecast processes
  • Support year-end audits by preparing required documentation, providing necessary financial reports, and effectively communicating with auditors
  • Work with outside tax consultants to manage and optimize tax preparation and planning (e.g., tax credit eligibility)
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations and industry standards, including researching technical accounting issues
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks, such as fraud, errors, and compliance issues

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field 
  • CPA designation preferred
  • 7+ years of proven experience in a senior accounting role 
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
  • Proven analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good organizational and leadership abilities
  • Experience in technology, software or healthcare industry is a plus
