Southeast Building Supply Interests, a Building Industry Partners portfolio, is seeking a Controller to join the team in Cullman, Alabama.

The Controller will be responsible for managing and directing the company’s financial and accounting activities. This position also develops and coordinates accounting systems for the efficient and profitable operation of the company.

The Controller also participates as a member of senior leadership.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Accounting Department functions, such as financial planning and reporting, accounting, billing, collections, payroll, budget preparation.
  • Delegate authority for the receipt, disbursement, banking, protection, and custody of funds, securities, and financial instruments according to company policies and procedures.
  • Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for financial activities according to all applicable laws and regulations. Monitor financial activities and complete audits to ensure compliance.
  • Analyze financial details to identify their impact on the company. Make specific recommendations to management on how to maximize opportunities or resolve issues while also achieving the company’s long-term and short-term objectives.
  • Prepare and file annual tax returns or gather financial information for the completion of tax returns.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with financial institutions to facilitate financial activities.
  • Prepare financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budgets, or reports according to the appropriate requirements as required or requested.
  • Ensure that financial reports and documentation are prepared timely, accurately, and according to GAAP standards. Review these to ensure information is fairly presented and contain no misrepresentations.
  • Report any deficiencies in internal accounting controls or any fraud involving management to the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Provide guidance to other departments regarding accounting, budgeting, and efficient utilization of financial resources.
  • Integrate and direct any cost or construction accounting system with the general accounting system and instruct management on how to utilize the system to control and manage operational costs.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field is required. Fifteen (15) years’ experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in place of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Professional certification (such as CPA, CFM, or CMA) is preferred.
  • Ten (10) years’ experience in Accounting or a related field is required.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of industry best practices, risk assessment techniques, standards, and all applicable laws and regulations as they relate to the Accounting field is required.
  • Highly developed proficiency with Office Suite, accounting, and tax preparation software.
  • Extremely clear presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent mathematical skills and financial acumen.
  • Ability to think critically and resolve problems.
  • Ability to plan strategically and analyze data.
