The Lumber Manufactory is seeking a Controller to own our accounting function end to end. You'll run the close, build the accounting team, and oversee payroll accounting and multi-entity consolidation, working closely with our VP of Finance, FP&A and HR. This is a chance to build the finance foundation for a company that is bringing new mills online and growing through acquisition, at a fast-growing, venture-backed company. The processes you set up will carry us through each new mill and each new acquisition.
This role is based in Seattle and reports to our VP of Finance. It's best suited for candidates who are already local or willing to relocate, with occasional travel to our Mississippi mill sites.
In This Role, You Will
Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close, delivering accurate GAAP financial statements on a predictable timeline.
Run general ledger, AP, AR, fixed assets, inventory and cost accounting, including standard costing and variance analysis for mill production.
Oversee capitalization and depreciation for mill construction and equipment, including construction-in-progress tracking.
Design and maintain internal controls, policies and procedures that scale with the business and keep us audit-ready.
Manage the annual financial statement audit and serve as the main contact for external auditors and tax advisors.
Partner with FP&A on budgets, forecasts and reporting to the CFO, leadership team and board.
Oversee payroll accounting for salaried and hourly teams, partnering with HR and payroll on timekeeping, department coding, accruals, benefits accounting, payroll tax filings and multi-state compliance.
Lead multi-entity consolidation, intercompany accounting and eliminations.
Drive accounting for acquisitions, from due diligence through opening balance sheets, purchase accounting, policy alignment and close integration.
Lead or co-lead ERP selection and implementation, and bring acquired entities onto our systems, keeping the finance stack (ERP, HRIS, AP) connected and clean.
Hire and develop accountants as the business grows, with clear roles, workflows and a close calendar that keep pace as new mills come online.
Adapt to changing priorities and support team and operational needs as they evolve.

The Lumber Manufactory Insights
What We Do
The Lumber Manufactory is a venture-backed sustainable lumber startup focused on domestic wood processing and supply chain infrastructure. We're building modern manufacturing infrastructure to serve the housing and construction industries while supporting responsible forest management. Our first mill is running successfully and we're actively expanding into the Southeast region. We're backed by Cantos, Slow Ventures, Susa Ventures, Banter, Humba Ventures, and Ravelin Capital. We're solving a real supply chain problem: the US imports roughly one-third of its lumber. We're building mills to change that and become part of national infrastructure around wood processing and domestic supply. It's tied to housing, economic development, and responsible forestry management.
Why Work With Us
You'll work on infrastructure that matters. You see the impact of your work directly. We move fast, we care about excellence, and we're mission-driven. No corporate BS—just smart people solving real problems.
