Ready to take the next step toward becoming a CFO?

Automotive Parts Headquarters, Inc. (APH) is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking Controller to lead our accounting and financial reporting functions. This is an exciting opportunity for a proven accounting leader who wants more than managing the numbers — someone who wants to influence business decisions, strengthen financial operations, develop a team, and help shape the future of a growing organization.

APH is a privately held automotive parts distributor with more than $325 million in annual business, over 200 retail locations across the Midwest, and multiple distribution centers. With a strong foundation and continued opportunities for growth, we are looking for a hands-on financial leader who can bring both strategic perspective and operational expertise to our organization.

For the right candidate, this position offers a clear path toward becoming APH's Chief Financial Officer (CFO).

What You'll Do

As Controller, you will oversee APH's accounting and financial reporting functions while partnering with senior leadership and operational teams to support the company's continued growth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and manage monthly and annual accounting close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

  • Prepare, review, and present financial statements and management reports.

  • Oversee General Ledger, Financial Reporting, Accounts Payable, Inventory Accounting, and Financial Analysis.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team while building strong processes and accountability.

  • Ensure financial records are accurate and compliant with GAAP.

  • Coordinate annual audits and support lender and external reporting requirements.

  • Maintain strong internal controls, account reconciliations, and balance sheet integrity.

  • Partner with executive leadership, store management, IT, and operations on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, profitability, and strategic business initiatives.

  • Oversee business insurance and banking relationships.

  • Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiencies.

What You'll Bring

We're looking for a confident, hands-on accounting professional who combines technical expertise with leadership ability and business perspective.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.

  • CPA strongly preferred; public accounting experience is a plus.

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of financial statements and month-end close processes.

  • Previous experience leading and developing an accounting team.

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting.

  • Experience in distribution, retail, manufacturing, or multi-location business environments preferred.

  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP/accounting systems; Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains experience is a plus.

  • Experience with banking relationships and business insurance.

  • Ability to communicate financial information effectively with executive leadership and operational teams.

  • Strategic mindset with the ability to balance day-to-day accounting operations with long-term business objectives.

  • Ambition and leadership capability to grow into a future CFO role.

Compensation & Benefits

Annual Salary: $130,000–$180,000, based on experience and qualifications, plus bonus opportunity.

APH offers a comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees, including:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance

  • Basic life and long-term disability insurance

  • Voluntary life and short-term disability options

  • 401(k) with company match

  • Profit sharing

  • Paid time off and sick leave

  • Employee discount program

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Why APH?

As a privately held organization, we offer the opportunity to work closely with executive leadership, make a meaningful impact, and help guide the financial direction of a growing business.
