Description
Engrain builds map-based tech that’s redefining how real estate works. Our interactive, unit-level maps and powerful data integrations help over 1,000 companies—and 20,000 properties—to make smarter decisions, streamline leasing, and deliver better renter experiences. From prospect to renewal, our products give properties a spatial brain and a visual edge when it comes to property marketing and management. And it’s working: our churn rate is just 5%, and we’ve been putting up double-digit growth numbers every year.
We’re not your typical proptech company. We move fast, we stay curious, and we don’t do stale or corporate fluff. Backed by successful Seed and Series A rounds, we’re entering a phase of serious scale.
As Controller, you will lead Engrain’s accounting operations while helping build a more scalable, technology-enabled finance function. Our stack includes NetSuite, Salesforce, Paylocity, Workato, Zone Payments, Avalara, and other modern platforms.
Beyond accounting leadership, we want someone who will modernize how Finance operates—using AI, intelligent agents, automation, and systems integration to eliminate repetitive work, strengthen controls, accelerate processes, and improve financial intelligence.
You will lead a team of seven, including an Associate Controller, report to the CFO, and partner extensively across the organization.
What you'll do...
- Lead Accounting: Oversee reporting, close, billing, AP/AR, payroll, treasury, general ledger, tax, and revenue recognition.
- Modernize Finance: Redesign workflows using AI, agents, automation, and systems integration to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scale.
- Automate Routine Work: Apply technology to reconciliations, transaction review, billing, collections, reporting, data validation, and other repeatable processes—shifting human attention toward exceptions, judgment, and higher-risk activities.
- Accelerate Close & Reporting: Improve close speed and accuracy while delivering timely financial insights that support better business decisions.
- Strengthen Systems & Controls: Improve interoperability across NetSuite, Salesforce, and adjacent platforms while maintaining strong controls, data governance, auditability, and responsible AI practices.
- Lead & Develop the Team: Build a high-performing accounting organization and develop the team’s capabilities with emerging AI and automation tools.
- Partner with the Business: Advise leaders on accounting and financial matters and translate growth priorities into scalable financial capabilities.
- Manage Compliance & External Partners: Ensure compliance with US GAAP and company policies while leading relationships with auditors and other financial partners.
