On behalf of our client, we are seeking an experienced and commercially astute Contracts and Commercial Manager to oversee contract administration, commercial performance, cost control, and contractual risk across construction and engineering projects.

The successful candidate will support projects from tendering through completion, ensuring contractual obligations are understood, commercial interests are protected, and variations, claims, payments, and supplier agreements are effectively managed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement contract administration and commercial management procedures.
  • Review tender documents, commercial proposals, bills of quantities, and contractual terms.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate client, subcontractor, consultant, and supplier agreements.
  • Advise project teams on contractual obligations, entitlements, risks, and notice requirements.
  • Monitor project budgets, commitments, expenditure, forecasts, and commercial performance.
  • Manage interim valuations, payment applications, variations, claims, and final accounts.
  • Maintain accurate registers for contracts, variations, claims, guarantees, and key deadlines.
  • Evaluate subcontractor quotations and support commercial negotiations and appointments.
  • Identify contractual and commercial risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Ensure project correspondence and supporting records are complete and suitable for contractual purposes.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and compliance with agreed commercial terms.
  • Support the resolution of contractual disputes and coordinate with external advisers where necessary.
  • Work closely with project management, engineering, procurement, and site teams.
  • Prepare regular commercial reports and present key findings to senior management.
  • Support post-project reviews and document lessons for future tenders and contracts.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Commercial Management, Law, or a related discipline.
  • Professional membership in a recognised quantity surveying, engineering, construction, or contracts management body is preferred.
  • Additional training in contract law, project management, or commercial management will be an advantage.
  • At least eight years of experience in contracts, quantity surveying, or commercial management.
  • A minimum of three years in a managerial or project-commercial leadership position.
  • Experience supporting major construction, engineering, infrastructure, or energy projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of contract administration, cost control, claims, variations, and final accounts.
  • Familiarity with internationally recognised construction contract frameworks is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate effectively and provide commercially practical advice.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, drafting, reporting, and stakeholder-management capabilities.
  • High standards of integrity, accuracy, and attention to contractual detail.

Skills Required
