The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a passion for practicing law and will be responsible for providing a full range of legal and/or compliance counsel and advice for various departments around insurance products, product development, policies, and/or services and will play a pivotal role in overseeing contract review and negotiations third parties. The role will work closely with leaders across the legal departments as well as corresponding business areas to ensure appropriate legal, compliance, and/or risk actions.  

What you’d be doing: 

  • Contract Review and Management: 
    • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts, including vendor agreements, service contracts, nondisclosure agreements, and licensing agreements. 
    • Ensure contracts comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies. 
    • Identify and mitigate legal and business risks in contract terms and conditions. 
    • Maintain and update contract templates to reflect current legal standards and organizational needs. 
  • Reporting Oversight: 
    • Oversee the preparation and submission of reports related to contract performance, compliance, and obligations. 
    • Develop and implement processes to streamline reporting workflows and improve efficiency. 
  • Contract Authority Management: 
    • Administer and monitor contract approval processes, ensuring proper authorization and adherence to delegation of authority policies. 
    • Advise on contract authority issues, including escalations and exceptions, to ensure compliance with corporate governance standards. 
    • Maintain accurate records of contract approvals and authority assignments. 
  • Legal Support and Collaboration: 
    • Provide legal guidance to business units on contract-related matters, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. 
    • Work closely with AVP Legal Counsel and cross-functional teams to support corporate agreements other strategic initiatives. 
    • Stay updated on relevant legal developments and industry trends to advise on best practices. 

We’re looking for someone who has: 

  • Juris Doctorate degree required; licensed to practice law in at least one jurisdiction. 
  • 3 -5 years of experience of corporate law, with a focus on contract drafting, review, and management 
  • Strong understanding of contract law, commercial transactions, and corporate governance in the insurance industry.  
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. 
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment. 
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and software. 
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in handling sensitive information. 
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with meticulous attention to detail. 
  • Proficiency in contract management software and Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. 

Highly preferred candidates also have: 

  • Five years of related work experience. 
  • Strong insurance or financial services experience preferred. 
  • Experience with contract lifecycle management (CLM) systems.
