At Nationwide®, “on your side” goes beyond just words. Our customers are at the center of everything we do and we’re looking for associates who are passionate about delivering extraordinary care.

Work Arrangement: This role follows a hybrid schedule and requires in-office presence in Columbus, Ohio two days per week.

Work Authorization: This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program.

The Consultant Technology Engineer in this role is the technical counterpart to a DEX product owner/manager. Their job is to make the user technology experience measurable, reliable, automated, and continuously improving across devices, applications, identity, collaboration, and workplace services.  This role sits at the intersection of endpoint engineering + observability + automation + data analytics + user experience.

Work you will do:

  • Lead transition from operational availability to measuring if the technology is working for the users

  • Partner across orgs (IT Service Desk and PC Engineering) to align priorities and deliver outcomes that reduce incidents

  • Provide thought leadership and strategic direction for the Dex platform and capabilities

  • Clearly and effectively able to describe our Dex platform capabilities and strategy to all levels of leadership and across organizations

  • DEX platform engineering & administration — Implement, configure, integrate, and maintain DEX platforms

  • Experience monitoring — Measure device health, application performance, login/boot times, crashes, network quality, collaboration performance, and other indicators of employee friction.

  • Proactive issue detection — Identify degradation and recurring problems before users open support tickets.

  • Automation & self-healing — Build scripts, workflows, and automated remediations for common issues such as application failures, configuration drift, disk capacity, services, certificates, or device performance.

  • Telemetry & data integration — Bring together endpoint, application, identity, network, ITSM, and user sentiment data to create an end-to-end picture of user experience.

  • DEX scoring & analytics — Develop experience scores, dashboards, KPIs, baselines, and segmentation to identify which user populations are experiencing friction and why.

  • Root-cause analysis — Correlate telemetry across devices, applications, infrastructure, and services to isolate the technical causes of poor experiences.

  • Endpoint experience optimization — Work closely with endpoint engineering on Windows/macOS configuration, patching, software distribution, device performance, and lifecycle improvements.

  • Application experience optimization — Analyze application responsiveness, crashes, launch times, authentication problems, and dependencies.

  • User sentiment — Combine technical telemetry with surveys and user feedback so that “healthy according to IT” doesn’t automatically mean “good experience for the user.”

  • ITSM integration — Connect DEX capabilities with platforms such as ServiceNow to enrich incidents, automate resolution, reduce ticket volumes, and improve service-desk diagnostics.

  • Change impact measurement — Measure the user impact of OS upgrades, application releases, configuration changes, migrations, and other technology changes.

  • Experience engineering — Translate recurring user pain points into technical improvements rather than simply resolving individual incidents.

  • Security & governance — Ensure telemetry collection, automation, and employee data are appropriately secured and privacy-conscious.

  • Continuous improvement — Establish baselines, identify high-impact opportunities, implement changes, and demonstrate measurable improvement.
