Our Consulting Delivery Hub (CDH) in India is a critical part of ERM’s global consulting model enabling scalable, high-quality delivery across regions and service lines. CDH teams work in close partnership with regional consultants to support global client projects, providing specialist expertise, driving consistency, and enhancing delivery efficiency across our most important programmes.

As part of the Consulting Delivery Hub, you will collaborate with colleagues worldwide, contribute to complex sustainability projects, and play a key role in shaping the future of global consulting delivery.

Why this role matters?

As an ESMS Specialist, you will support ERM’s global consulting delivery by developing and implementing Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS) that are aligned with international standards such as but not limited to IFC PS, WB ESS (knowledge of European, African and Asian IFI’s standard are a plus). You will work within the Impact Assessment capability of the CPD service line, partnering with regional consultants and global client teams to deliver robust, standards-compliant management systems. This role is critical to the quality, consistency, and international compliance of ERM’s environmental and social advisory delivery.

  • Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS) are developed and implemented in line with IFC Performance Standard 1 (PS1) and other relevant international standards.

  • Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs), manuals, action plans, and policies are delivered to a high, audit-ready standard.

  • Regional consulting teams and clients receive timely, specialist ESMS support that strengthens delivery quality and efficiency.

  • Management systems remain current and are continuously improved to reflect evolving international requirements and lender expectations.

  • Client projects consistently meet regulatory, lender, and international governance requirements for environmental and social management.

What will you bring?

  • Strong working knowledge of relevant international standards and associated lender frameworks.

  • Experience developing and implementing Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS) within a consulting, sustainability, or industry environment.

  • Proven ability to produce ESMPs, management manuals, action plans, and policies to a high standard.

  • Proficiency in English (essential) together with French, Italian, or Spanish — priority given to French speakers.

  • Experience working with global teams and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing capability.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver to deadlines.

Preferred skills & competencies

  • Experience implementing ESMS across sectors such as infrastructure, energy, or industrial development.

  • Exposure to global delivery or shared service environments.

  • Familiarity with additional international frameworks (e.g., the Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards 2–8, World Bank Group EHS Guidelines).

  • Experience using automation or AI-enabled tools.

  • Relevant certifications or advanced qualifications in environmental and social management.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS) aligned with international standards (IFC PS1, ESMPs, manuals, action plans, and policies).

  • Prepare, maintain, and update Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs) and supporting management-system documentation.

  • Advise regional consultants and clients on the application of international environmental and social standards.

  • Review and continuously improve management systems to ensure ongoing compliance with international and lender requirements.

  • Collaborate with global project teams to ensure consistent, high-quality, and efficient delivery.

Skills Required

  • Working knowledge of international standards and lender frameworks (e.g., IFC Performance Standards, World Bank ESS)
  • Experience developing and implementing Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS)
  • Proven ability to produce ESMPs, management manuals, action plans, and policies to audit-ready standard
  • Proficiency in English
