Configuration Management Specialist | Defence Engineering

Location: Melbourne, Australia
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Tuesday–Thursday in office)

About the Role

World Fuel Government Solutions is seeking a Configuration Management Specialist to support the delivery of complex Defence programs by maintaining the integrity, traceability, and control of engineering and product configurations throughout the system lifecycle.

This role is a critical part of our engineering team, ensuring that design changes, product structures, technical data, and configuration baselines are accurately controlled and maintained. Working closely with Engineering, Project Management, Quality, and Defence stakeholders, you will help ensure compliance, auditability, and governance across highly regulated Defence programs.

This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys working at the intersection of engineering, systems, data management, and process control.

What You'll Be Doing

Configuration Management

  • Maintain configuration control processes across Defence engineering programs.
  • Establish and maintain configuration baselines for products and systems.
  • Manage engineering change activities throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Ensure product structures, assemblies, components, and associated technical data remain accurate and compliant.
  • Support version control and release management of engineering data and documentation.
  • Monitor and maintain configuration records to ensure full traceability.

Engineering Data & Change Control

  • Coordinate engineering change requests and change implementation activities.
  • Support the management of Bills of Materials (BOMs), product structures, and engineering records.
  • Ensure configuration updates are accurately reflected across all systems and documentation.
  • Participate in configuration audits and reviews.
  • Support compliance with Defence standards, customer requirements, and internal processes.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with Engineers, Project Managers, Procurement, Quality, and Defence stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure configuration data remains accurate and current.
  • Support program reporting and governance activities.
  • Provide configuration management guidance and support across project teams.

What We're Looking For

Essential Experience

  • Experience in Configuration Management, Engineering Data Management, Product Configuration, or a related discipline.
  • Experience supporting engineering, manufacturing, aerospace, defence, or highly regulated technical environments.
  • Understanding of engineering change management processes.
  • Experience managing product structures, Bills of Materials, and technical records.
  • Strong attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Defence industry experience.
  • Experience supporting system development, engineering, manufacturing, or sustainment programs.
  • Familiarity with configuration audits and governance processes.
  • Experience working with technical drawings, engineering documentation, and controlled records.
  • Exposure to Defence standards, quality systems, or compliance frameworks.

Education

  • Degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Technical Management, Quality, Configuration Management, or a related discipline.
