Job Summary

Co-ordinating all regulatory compliance activities across a group of geographically and culturally diverse teams and
across jurisdictions, to ensure consistent policies and standards are applied and to ensure Senior Stakeholders are
presented with an appropriate and coherent view of regulatory compliance risks faced in Mozambique.

Job Description

Governance and Oversight:

Participate in the designing of the ABM Compliance and cluster risk management strategies and oversee the implementation thereof to support the BU in the management of the compliance risk profile;

Develop and maintain the compliance operating model to support the Compliance Department and cluster risk management strategies and oversee the implementation thereof;

Ensure that the operating model is consistent with global best practice and in line with Absa Group and Banco de Mozambique requirements through research, formal and informal internal and external interactions, whilst ensuring alignment with policies;

Be an active and accountable member of the ABM Compliance leadership team as well as the BU risk management leadership teams;

Actively engage across all business lines within the division in terms of compliance risk through various forums and individual meetings in order to ensure benchmarking and sharing best practices in support of ABM's control environment;

Be a key role player in the establishment of the group’s appetite for compliance and implement a framework of supporting controls;


Maintaining the Compliance Framework:

Lead and work closely with direct management team, in proposing and ensuring the delivery of agreed compliance activities;

Be the central point of entry for the Business Unit (BU) in terms of regulatory compliance activities and related policies such as the Compliance Framework, policy framework and awareness, new product approval process, compliance reviews, reporting etc;

Responsible for the review, challenge and roll-out of compliance policies and standards by providing feedback during compliance forums;

Develop an innovative, cost-effective and market-leading solution/s for optimizing the compliance framework.

Manage the financial plan and operational budget of the function in line with the strategic objectives;


Business Management Time:

Develop and maintain relationships with key Executives/Senior Business leaders across the business to drive ownership of the management and general awareness of the Compliance function and to promote a proactive approach to the management of regulatory compliance risks;

Attend relevant Compliance Forums & Conferences to enable the role holder to stay abreast of developments in the Regulatory Compliance world;

Together with the other members of the Africa Compliance Executive Committee, contribute to the development of the Africa Compliance strategy and framework;

Agree targets and take accountability for the overall achievement of the BU Compliance team’s performance objectives in terms of cost management, risk and control management, employee management (employee satisfaction, performance, issues, staffing, return on investments, risk, and compliance and governance requirements);

Conduct monthly oversight reviews with direct reports to understand the business performance and support them to develop corrective actions where required. Escalate only major issues to the Head of Compliance and to the Regulatory Affairs Manager;

Act as key advisor to business unit heads during the review of opportunities for the creation of new business categories, acquisitions, disposals or new joint ventures that will have Group wide impact;

Keep the various stakeholders informed of the operation and progress of regulatory compliance efforts and to present emerging issues/risks through the provision of regular reports;
