MCB's Compliance Strategic Business Unit (SBU) plays an important role as a second line of defence within corporate governance for assessing, controlling and mitigating compliance and reputational risk arising from MCB’s operating environment and activities.
By joining the team as Compliance Officer, you will assist in ensuring that MCB is conducting its business in full compliance with all applicable laws, rules, regulations and codes, as well as professional standards, accepted business practices, and internal policies, standards and procedures.

In this role you will:
• Assist the Compliance Coordinator, Team Leader, Manager and/or the Head of Compliance in ensuring that the organisation is complying with all relevant laws, regulations and industry codes and standards of best practices;
• Assist the Compliance Coordinator, Team Leader, Manager and/or the Head of Compliance in the identification of compliance issues at on-boarding stage and, where appropriate, come up with suggestions for process improvements and/or control enhancements;
• Ensure that all checklists and FAQs on Know Your Customer (KYC) related issues are kept up to date at all times and enriched as appropriate;
• Perform assessment of proposed client relationships emanating from the various Lines of Business and where relevant submit recommendations to the Compliance Coordinator, Team Leader, Manager and/or the Head of Compliance, prior to escalation to the relevant committee;
• Attend to requests for information/special examination on customers emanating from the regulators and law enforcement agencies and ensure that the relevant responses are submitted to the Compliance Coordinator, Team Leader, Manager and/or the Head of Compliance within the prescribed timeframe;
• Provide support in handling Anti Money Laundering issues and complaints from external/internal customers, whilst also providing valuable advice, when required, to mitigate financial losses and reputation risks;
• Conduct investigations into cases of suspected or known money laundering activities of varying complexity and prepare a summary of findings to enable an efficient reporting;
• Ensure proper capture and categorisation of customer complaints in MCB’s Complaints Management System and effect follow-up to enable assignment to correct owners and prompt resolution, in adherence with regulatory requirements and internal policies;
• Perform complaints quality monitoring and conduct voice-of-the customer surveys to ensure effectiveness of customer complaints handling process;
• Ensure an ongoing review of the customer complaints process to align with regulatory requirements;
• Assist the Compliance Coordinator, Team Leader, Manager and/or the Head of Compliance in the preparation of annual compliance plans;
• Contribute in ensuring that the activities of the Compliance SBU as set in the Compliance plan are duly carried out and relevant reports issued as per set time frames;
• Provide support to assigned areas on compliance related issues including provision of advice, and assistance in communication to external parties;
• Assist in the preparation of AML/CFT/PF training materials and other compliance related matters and delivery of training to staff thereon;
• Provide technical support and guidance for the development and delivery of training programs in relation to MCB’s processes, procedures and controls;
• Review procedures for inadequacies that may ultimately entail risks and ensure that changes to business practices and products are adequately covered by MCB’s procedures and controls;
• Contribute in the write-up for Compliance part in the Annual Reports of MCB Ltd & MCB Group;
• Identify and assess key risk factors when considering the compliance risks relevant to clients, products/services and/or business lines;
• Investigate, report and make recommendations on breaches, potential breaches or regulatory issues;
• Review and assess documentation, marketing literature, other product documentation and client communications to ensure compliance with laws and rules;
• Assist as required with regard to: (i) regulators in the context of the latter’s on-site inspection and/or examination, (ii) requests and queries from law enforcement agencies; and (iii) External Auditors and Internal Auditors during their audits;
• Contribute in the preparation of reports for Committees;
• Handle screening alerts and ensure clearance of same within the set timeframe;
• Update the SBU’s databases and keep same accurate and complete for proper monitoring and follow up;
• Participate in any projects as may be advised by the Compliance Coordinator, Team Leader, Manager and/or the Head of Compliance.

We are looking for candidates who have:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration/Financial Services;
• 5 years’ work experience in Financial or Banking environment;
• 3 years’ work experience in Compliance, Audit, Risk and/or Legal sectors.
And
• Good knowledge of Microsoft office tools;
• Sound knowledge in banking and financial operations and procedures;
• Thorough knowledge of regulatory framework including, inter alia, Banking Act 2004, Bank of Mauritius Guidelines, Financial Services Act 2007, Prevention of Corruption Act 2002, Financial Intelligence & Anti Money Laundering Act 2002, Financial Intelligence and Anti-Money Laundering Regulations 2018, Borrowers' Protection Act 2007, Companies Act 2001, Data Protection Act 2017 The United Nations (Financial Prohibitions, Arms Embargo and Travel Ban) Sanctions Act 2019, The Anti-Money Laundering And Combatting The Financing Of Terrorism And Proliferation (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 2019, the Financial Crime Commission Act 2023;
• Excellent analytical, writing, reporting and communication skills.
