Position Overview:

The Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist is responsible for promoting and maintaining a safe, healthy, and environmentally compliant workplace. This role partners with plant leadership, operations, and employees to drive a proactive safety culture, ensure compliance with applicable regulations, and support continuous improvement initiatives that reduce risk and protect our people, facilities, and environment. The EH&S Specialist serves as a key resource for safety programs, training, incident prevention, and environmental stewardship.

Essential Functions:

  • Support and maintain the Brunswick Safety Management System (SMS), including departmental audits, corrective action follow-up, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and implement proactive Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) programs and systems that support plant safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and audits, document findings, and ensure identified issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Investigate incidents and injuries, facilitate root cause analysis, and drive accountability for corrective actions.
  • Ensure implementation of EH&S policies, procedures, and best management practices through the Safety Management System and applicable tracking tools.
  • Coordinate and deliver EH&S training programs for facility personnel and facilitate Employee Safety Committee activities.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) records and administer hazard communication program updates and training.
  • Ensure Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, equipment instructions, and compliance requirements are current and effectively implemented.
  • Lead ergonomic improvement projects to proactively identify and reduce injury risks. Partner with operations and engineering teams to sustain improvements.
  • Review new and modified processes, equipment, and chemicals to ensure EH&S compliance requirements are met.
  • Oversee proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
  • Manage and maintain environmental compliance programs, including the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), Spill Prevention Program, and Wastewater Plan.
  • Review accident and incident data, perform trend analysis, and provide recommendations to reduce risk and improve safety performance.
  • Communicate EH&S information, expectations, and performance metrics to facility leadership and employees.
  • Develop and maintain the annual EH&S training schedule and lead training initiatives across the facility.

Required Qualifications:

  • OSHA 30-Hour Training preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence change while promoting a strong safety culture.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, and applicable state and local regulations preferred.
  • Familiarity with air permit compliance requirements.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and build consensus among diverse teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to collect, interpret, and summarize data.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Experience with compliance management software is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership training.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification.

Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit.  The employee is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The hiring range for this position is $43,200-$59,9000 annually. The actual base pay offered will vary based on multiple factors including job-related knowledge/skills, relevant experience, business needs, and geographic location. Compensation decisions are dependent upon the specifics of the candidate’s qualifications and the business context. 

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
