Personal Insurance Compliance is seeking a talented professional to join their team as a Compliance Assistant Director, primarily supporting the Personal Insurance organization. This Compliance team is closely partnered with the Personal Insurance organization and provides a wide array of legal & regulatory compliance support, including advice relating to product development, rate and form filings, underwriting practices; managing regulatory inquiries; implementing legislative and regulatory developments (state and federal); advising on major business initiatives and transactions; and other matters that may impact the underwriting and sale of insurance. As the main point of contact for all state regulatory matters related to their assigned states & products, the Assistant Director will regularly coordinate with Law Department colleagues (e.g. Privacy Law, Government Relations, Enterprise Transactions, Litigation) and other areas of the Enterprise to provide creative and practical solutions to their clients.
The Assistant Director will be expected to provide a wide range of regulatory compliance support for the Personal Insurance organization. The Assistant Director will establish relationships and work closely with business clients at all levels, proactively mitigate key regulatory issues, and provide thoughtful and risk-balanced advice on a variety of matters.
Candidates in proximity to one of our office locations (Hartford, CT; Charlotte, NC; Orlando, Florida, Sunrise Florida, and/or Aurora, IL) and the ability to work a hybrid schedule -three days per week in the office (Tuesday through Thursday) are a strong plus.
Responsibilities:
Serve as Compliance Lead and single point of contact for states and accountabilities related to Personal Insurance across products, functions, and business units. May also support P&C Data Calls and regulatory inquiries.
Effectively communicate with a wide range of business clients, including senior leaders
Manage strategic initiatives and compliance issues; identify potential regulatory issues in business initiatives; offer thoughtful, creative solutions that are appropriate for the level of risk involved.
Direct and manage regulatory matters in a manner that builds confidence within the regulatory community and protects The Hartford.
Develop and execute compliance audit programs to proactively identify organizational vulnerabilities and develop strategies for ensuring future compliance.
Analyze regulatory requirements; provide business clients with practical and actionable advice.
Demonstrate well-developed communication skills and sound, independent judgment.
Qualifications:
4 year college degree or equivalent experience is required
A minimum of five+ years of experience working within an insurance regulatory environment and/or with Personal insurance products.
Strong research & critical thinking skills.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills; ability to build effective working relationships with internal colleagues, business clients, and others at all levels of the organization.
Experience working with senior level clients and/or business leaders preferred.
Collaborative; team player.
Self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of independent decision-making.
Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and enjoy working across a breadth of subject matter, intellectually curious.
Excellent project management skills and ability to effectively manage multiple urgent competing priorities.

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
