The Compiler Engineering team in Data Center Group at Intel has an opportunity available for a Compiler Engineer.
At Intel, we are building the next generation of software technologies that unlock the potential of heterogeneous computing. Our compiler technologies help developers harness CPUs, GPUs, and accelerators through high-performance, portable software. You will contribute to an ecosystem that advances performance, scalability, reliability, and developer productivity for AI, HPC, and other demanding workloads, while supporting Intel's commitment to contributing to and collaborating with open-source communities.
The Intel Compiler Engineering Team develops LLVM-based C, C++, SYCL, Triton, MLIR, Domain Specific Languages (DSLs), and Fortran compiler technologies for Intel processor platforms, including CPUs and GPUs. The team works across the compiler stack and in close collaboration with hardware architecture teams, covering language front ends, intermediate representations, optimization, code generation, debug information, runtimes, offload support, quality, and developer tooling. This work connects Intel hardware and compiler capabilities with AI frameworks and software ecosystems such as PyTorch, inference engines, and machine-learning models.
As a Compiler Engineer, you will play a critical role in advancing compiler technologies that deliver exceptional performance and scalability across Intel architectures.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing, testing, debugging, and maintaining advanced compiler technologies and software components.
- Driving the implementation of new compiler features and resolving software defects.
- Analyzing real-world applications, workloads, and benchmarks to identify optimization opportunities.
- Improving the performance and efficiency of compiler-generated code for Intel CPU architectures.
- Conducting functional, performance, scalability, and stress testing to ensure product quality and reliability.
- Partnering with hardware architects and platform teams to enable new processor capabilities.
- Collaborating across global engineering, validation, and performance teams to deliver high-quality products.
- Contributing to open-source compiler initiatives and industry standards.
Minimum qualifications are required to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Informatics, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of professional software development experience and advanced knowledge in C/C++.
- Strong background in object-oriented programming, algorithms, and data structures.
- Experience optimizing software for CPU performance and efficiency.
- Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proven ability to work independently.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills within global engineering environments.
- Experience with vectorization technologies and parallel programming models such as OpenMP.
- Experience with compiler development using LLVM or similar compiler frameworks.
- Knowledge of assemblers, linkers, and low-level system software.
- Strong understanding of compiler optimizations, code generation, and CPU architecture.
- Familiarity with performance profiling and analysis tools such as perf or equivalent solutions.
Requirements listed would be obtained through a combination of industry relevant job experience, internship experiences and or schoolwork/classes/research.
