About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Compensation & Payroll Manager to manage and optimize payroll processes, compensation strategies, and benefit administration for both US and global employees (including contractors). The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in payroll processing, benefits administration, and compensation analysis. Experience with Rippling, global payroll, stock options administration (Carta), and financial reporting are highly desirable. This is a crucial role in ensuring operational excellence for our People Operations. You will be responsible for administering global payroll, leaves of absences, HRIS management, providing ad-hoc data analytics, and partnering with Accounting & Finance to support month-end closing tasks.


Responsibilities

  • HR Responsibilities:
    • Process and manage all aspects of payroll with accuracy and timeliness. Responsibilities include calculating hours, calculating deductions, processing new hires and terminations, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
    • Verify timesheets, attendance records, and other relevant data to facilitate payroll calculations.
    • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including tax and labor laws. Administer employee benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other benefits.
    • Prepare and maintain accurate and timely payroll records and reports.
    • Keep up to date with changes in payroll regulations and adjust payroll systems and processes accordingly.
    • Collaborate with HR and accounting teams to ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll and benefits.
    • Resolve payroll discrepancies and answer employee questions about payroll and benefits.
    • Invoice Verification: Ensure the accuracy of payroll-related invoices.
    • Administer FMLA leave requests, military requests, and requests for accommodation under the ADA. 
    • Works closely with management and employees to ensure that all relevant completed medical documentation is submitted, and coordinates all aspects of return to work for leaves of absence.
    • Manage Worker’s Compensation program
    • Manage employee personnel files through entire employee lifecycle
    • Ensures data hygiene and management of HRIS 
    • Payroll Processing: Oversee payroll for US employees (with specific experience in CA, NY, TX, WA, OR) and manage global payroll for regions like Canada, UK, and France, including payments for contractors.
    • Reporting: Generate reports using Rippling and other systems to ensure accurate data for payroll, benefits, and compensation reporting.
    • Benefits Administration: Manage employee benefits programs, including open enrollment and benefit plan selection, in collaboration with finance.
    • Employee Stock Options Administration: Manage stock options using Carta, including grants, maintenance, and cap table reporting.
    • Compensation Management: Work with pay bands and compensation structures, driving pay equity and competitive salaries.


  • Finance Collaboration:
    • Stock Option Reporting: Maintain accurate data entry in Carta, provide reporting for cap tables, and assist in the administration of employee stock grants.
    • Payroll Reporting to Accounting: Ensure accurate payroll data reporting to facilitate month-end close and reconciliations while maintaining data confidentiality.
    • Headcount & Compensation Reporting: Provide headcount metrics, attrition analysis, and regrettable attrition reporting to Finance monthly.
    • Benefits & Compensation Analysis: Collaborate with HR and Finance to conduct annual benefit analysis, forecasting, and vendor selection.
    • Bonus & Commission Management: Track, report, and facilitate the payout of bonuses and commissions.
    • Salary Forecasting: Assist in salary forecasting and contribute to financial modeling with up-to-date payroll data.
    • Data Analysis & HRIS Reporting: Assist with ad-hoc human resources and financial reporting and analysis as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in US & global payroll and compensation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Experience working in a startup or smaller-sized business; experience from fintech or SaaS is preferred.
  • Deep experience with US payroll, including CA, NY, TX, WA, OR, and global payroll for Canada, UK, and France.
  • Strong knowledge of Rippling and payroll systems, along with experience managing stock options in Carta.
  • Expertise in managing payments for both US and international contractors.
  • Prior experience reporting payroll data to accounting and finance teams, supporting month-end close processes.
  • Familiarity with administering benefits plans and the ability to conduct cost analysis for vendor selection.
  • Experience with compensation projects, job leveling, and pay band administration.
  • Strong Excel and intermediate financial analysis skills, financial modeling skills preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with payroll processing software, and familiarity with payroll taxes and regulations
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
  • Experience with HRIS systems; Rippling is an added plus
  • Knowledge of federal and state labor and tax laws
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstration ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • On-site 4+ days a week in Irvine, CA.

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $80k - $110k+ (depending on experience).
