USC Summer Programs offers students a preview of “freshman year” through its college immersion experience. Students explore Los Angeles as a laboratory for cultural learning beyond the traditional classroom. Our programs are designed to combine college level coursework, academic field trips, and structured extracurricular activities. USC Summer Programs offers 4-week courses in a variety of subjects from which students choose one course for intense study. Courses are interactive, engaging, and challenging, and students receive 3 units of transferrable USC elective credit upon successful completion of the 4-Week program.
Reporting to Director of Academics and Operations, the Commuter Coordinator is a temporary full-time, professional position supporting, roughly, 850+ students and 90+ residential assistant staff. This position performs a variety of important daily operational tasks related to commuter student support, emergency and crisis management, and the commuter experience. Given the nature of this position, this role requires the highest level of flexibility, communication, and a positive attitude to both students and peers.
Responsibilities:
Manage attendance protocols and reporting for commuter students. Notifying program staff and faculty of missing students.
Plan and execute two Commuters events on campus during the course of the program.
Develop and manage weekly email Commuter newsletter campaigns to be sent to students and parents.
Establish and maintain communication with commuter students and their parents/guardians regarding weekend off-campus recreational/academic trips, schedule of weekday activities, and commuter policies.
Assist Operations Coordinator with weekend off-campus/academic field trip scheduling and bus-loading.
Create rosters and collaborate with operation assistants for weekend off-campus field trips.
Assist in any academic field trip planning
Enforce university policies, USC Summer Programs policies, confront student behavior, and document student actions and/or situations when necessary.
Participate in leadership team check-in meetings and report updates to the Senior Admin team.
Other duties as assigned by department leadership.
Required Position Dates and Work Schedule
Summer Prep: Tuesday, April 1 – Tuesday, June 16, 2026 (approximately 10 - 15 hours/week, hybrid)
Summer Program Training & Programming: Wednesday, June 17 – Saturday, July 18, 2026 (full-time, with evening and weekend hours required)
Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is $30/hour
USC Hospitality Residential Dining meal plan with three meals provided daily, including weekends (during program duration)
Planned Recreational and Program Activities, including the paid cost of admission fees and transportation. Past trips have included: Knott’s Berry Farm Amusement Park, and Santa Monica Beach/3rd St. Promenade
Bachelor’s degree
Experience working with youth/young adults
Superior writing and communication skills
Ability to understand the unique social-emotional needs of individual students
Demonstrated cultural awareness and competency
Ability to adjust to changing priorities and perform well under pressure
Demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications and Experience
Prior experience working with high school students, summer programs, and/ or residential programs.
Prior experience coordinating social activities and events.
Friendly demeanor and helpful attitude.
Problem-solving skills.
Ability to remain patient and professional during stressful situations.
Ability to work responsibly with or without direct supervision.
