Community Development Specialist


WCMHS is seeking a Community Support Specialist to make a direct, lasting impact by empowering individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities to build independence, confidence, and meaningful connections in their communities.

Through personalized, hands-on support, this role helps people develop daily living, social, and life skills that support their goals and aspirations. By fostering inclusion and encouraging active participation in community life, the Community Support Specialist helps individuals strengthen their sense of belonging and enhance their overall quality of life.

Summary of Duties

  • Implement individualized service plans while keeping track of progress according to agency standards
  • Support individuals’ development towards independence, including cooking, budgeting, and communication
  • Transport clients safely to appointments, community activities, employment, and other essential destinations
  • Monitor client safety and respond appropriately in emergencies
  • Establish professional, positive, and supportive relationships with individuals, families, and community partners
  • Provide respectful and safe daily support to clients in residential settings

 

Compensation and Benefits

WCMHS provides a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, retirement, and a generous paid time off package including flexible holidays and 12 vacation days in year one.

The starting pay range for this position is $19.06 - $20.24 per hour

Qualifications

Summary of Qualifications


  • High school completion or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and consistent, regular access to a safe, reliable, insured vehicle
  • Strong communication skills
  • Positive regard for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities, autism, and co-occurring mental health or substance use disorders
  • Team player with a collaborative approach
  • Ability to maintain a calm demeanor and utilize de-escalation skills 
  • The ability to deliver services and complete treatment notes in English

Workplace Conditions

Working in a variety of locations including program spaces, residential environments, and in the community, working with clients who may have difficult behaviors, transporting clients with one’s car is required, and the ability to lift up to 50lbs. Work hours include evening and weekend shifts as needed to meet staffing requirements.
