Job Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary 

Community Garden and Urban Agriculture Special Projects Personnel to support San Francisco Department of Recreation and Parks to provide support, conduct community engagement, lead events, and more across multiple garden and agriculture sites.


Schedule 

September 14, 2026 - June 19, 2027


Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Lead and facilitate educational workshops and through structured activities.
  • Engage and manage groups of youth and/or adults for 2+ hours for volunteer events
  • Support all-hands large-scale events.
  • Supporting materials management and distribution within the SFRPD urban agriculture system

Marginal Duties 

  • Basic record keeping and completing bi-weekly logs

Required Qualifications 

  • Willing to work occasional off hours and outdoors in inclement weather
  • California State Drivers’ License with a good driving record
  • Experience working with youth is a must
  • Demonstrate high level working knowledge of urban agriculture principles and community volunteer management.
  • Possess significant community development skills

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Enjoys working with diverse intergenerational crowds, and has a strong interest in working with youth
  • Interest and experience in Urban Agriculture and Urban Parks
  • Experience leading/facilitating youth through structured activities
  • Able to engage and comfortable managing groups of youth and/or adults for 2+ hours independently
  • Works well in a team setting and similarly, is self-motivated and can work independently
  • Passion for the environment and working outdoors
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literate; MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Internet
  • Previous related experience or background in biology, environmental studies, or other related subjects or strong interest and willingness to learn independently and through experience
  • B.A. or B.S. in a related subject (preferred not required)
  • Multi-lingual, ideally in Spanish and/or Cantonese
  • Comfortable driving large trucks or willing to learn
  • Ideally Bay Area resident

Hours 

32 hours per week for 12 weeks, then moving to 16 hours per week for 28 weeks.
