Supports habitat restoration and urban conservation through invasive species removal, native plant installation, surveys, tree care, trail maintenance, and site stewardship. Assists with environmental education, volunteer coordination, community engagement, social media, photography, grant documentation, and partner trail-planning activities. Requires outdoor fieldwork, collaboration with community organizations, and participation in conservation programming across Houston’s Willow Waterhole Greenspace.

Supports native plant restoration at Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park by establishing and operating a shade house, collecting seeds and propagules, propagating and outplanting Hawaiian plants, and tracking source materials. The role also assists with broader resource management activities, including weed control, masonry, visitor interaction, and volunteer projects. Work occurs independently and collaboratively in hot, sometimes remote conditions with limited transportation and cell service.

Supports federal archaeological collection curation and cultural resource compliance under 36 CFR § 79. Duties include improving collection data quality, updating MCMS object records, digitizing and organizing legacy documentation, managing digital assets, applying metadata and records-management standards, and linking museum records with archaeological site data in GIS. The member will collaborate with cultural resource, museum property, and GIS staff while following NAGPRA, confidentiality, and federal stewardship requirements.

Assists Houston Parks and Recreation staff with habitat restoration, native plant propagation, invasive species removal, environmental equipment operation, site inspections, data collection, field studies, and community outreach. The role includes training in botany, natural resource management, chemical and mechanical removal methods, safety practices, reporting, and environmental equipment maintenance.

Six-month internship coordinating and facilitating urban forestry, conservation, and environmental education programs for high school students and community partners. Responsibilities include recruiting Youth Fellows, organizing workshops, field experiences, stewardship projects, tree giveaways, and public events; preparing materials and supplies; coordinating volunteers and partners; supporting career exploration; and tracking participation and program outcomes. The role requires local Houston availability, driving, outdoor work, occasional evening and weekend activities, and engagement with diverse youth and communities.

Support Navy natural-resource projects through forest-condition assessments, invasive-species control, protected-species and migratory-bird surveys, gopher tortoise tracking, GPS data management, habitat mapping, and annual reporting. Duties also include maintaining live animal exhibits, handling snakes, conducting outreach and educational classes, entering data into the Avian Knowledge Network, and operating government vehicles across installation properties.

26-week hands-on preservation trades internship at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Train in roofing, masonry, window restoration, chinking, tool use, and preservation maintenance while working with NPS staff. Physical outdoor work, safety-focused, and includes OSHA 10 training and a bi-weekly living allowance.

Supports Arctic National Wildlife Refuge visitor services by entering and quality-checking special use permit data, processing and filing documents, and generating visitor-use reports. Additional duties include organizing office files and field gear, preparing informational materials, monitoring mail and permitting email, and potentially assisting with training or field projects. The role requires attention to detail, communication skills, independence, teamwork, and willingness to work in demanding winter and natural environments.

Welcomes and orients visitors at the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center, provides information, presents interpretive programs, operates visitor-center facilities and audiovisual equipment, maintains exhibits and grounds, and supports special events. The ranger may also assist with environmental education, community partnerships, marketing, social media, and virtual learning programs. This is a full-time winter placement in Ketchikan with shared bunkhouse housing and changing schedules.

Supports El Yunque National Forest’s hurricane recovery and engineering projects through meeting coordination, documentation, information compilation, correspondence, budget and strategic planning assistance, project monitoring, and field assessments. The role also involves public communication, records management, reports, procurement forms, and administrative support for engineering staff. Fieldwork may include after-storm assessments and restoration activities.

Interpretation interns support visitors at Devils Tower National Monument by providing orientation, safety, and interpretive information at the visitor center, developing and presenting programs, and roving trails. They also assist with outreach, paperwork, and other supervisory assignments while working outdoors and engaging the public.

Provide administrative and clerical support for Mississippi National River and Recreation Area: manage and prepare records, assist records transfer to Federal Records Center and NARA, schedule meetings, track tasks, handle supply receipt and reconciliation, use computers and software for data collection and reporting, support volunteers and staff, and perform collateral visitor center and property management duties as assigned.

Provide front-line visitor services and interpretive programming at White Sands National Park. Staff the visitor center desk, deliver formal and informal programs, research and develop exhibits about fossilized footprints, perform roving interpretation, assist with special events, and represent the park at outreach events. Participate in training and mentorship throughout the placement.

Assist the Cultural Resources Specialist in maintaining compliance and documentation on historical sites, conducting research, and organizing records for Fort Leavenworth.

Serve at Kealia Pond NWR delivering visitor services and environmental education: greet visitors, provide interpretive programs and safety/orientation information, support visitor center operations, assist outreach and conservation projects, and develop interpretive materials while gaining professional development in interpretation, public presentation, and park operations.
