Job Description

About the team and the role

Sydney Airport is one of Australia's most important pieces of critical infrastructure, connecting communities, creating economic opportunity and supporting millions of passengers each year.

As Community Communications Manager, you will lead the development and delivery of community-focused communications that strengthen Sydney Airport's social licence to operate and support its long-term growth strategy.

Reporting to the Community Investment & Partnerships Senior Manager and sitting within the Sustainability, Environment and Community Investment team, you'll be responsible for creating compelling content that connects local communities with the work of Sydney Airport. Through strategic storytelling, you'll help showcase the airport's positive contribution to the community, build trust and understanding, and bring important initiatives, projects and partnerships to life.

Working across a broad range of business functions, you'll identify and develop stories that resonate with community audiences, translating complex airport, infrastructure and sustainability topics into engaging and accessible content. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced storyteller who enjoys building relationships, uncovering great stories and creating content that informs, engages and influences.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to

  • Lead the development and delivery of community communications content aligned to Sydney Airport's Community Investment & Engagement Strategy, Sustainability Strategy and broader corporate objectives.
  • Identify, develop and publish compelling stories that showcase Sydney Airport's positive contribution to local communities.
  • Translate complex airport, sustainability and infrastructure topics into engaging and accessible content for community audiences.
  • Develop content themes and campaigns across community investment, environment and sustainability, local jobs and skills, economic opportunity, safety and security, First Nations partnerships and airport infrastructure investment.
  • Manage and continuously improve Sydney Airport's Community Hub website content.
  • Produce content across a range of channels, including community newsletters, EDMs, social media campaigns, videos, multimedia storytelling, community engagement campaigns and external media opportunities.
  • Oversee content calendars and monitor channel performance to maximise community reach and engagement.
  • Support senior leaders with speech writing, presentations, conference materials and community-facing communications.
  • Develop messaging and communication materials that support community engagement activities, stakeholder events and sustainability initiatives.
  • Partner with teams across the business to identify story opportunities and bring them to life through engaging content.
  • Manage external creative partners including agencies, photographers, videographers and designers to deliver high-quality communications outcomes.
  • Support key community investment activities, announcements, events, tours and partnership initiatives when required.

About you

You're an exceptional storyteller with strong editorial instincts and a genuine passion for creating content that informs, engages and influences.

You know how to turn complex topics into clear, engaging stories that resonate with local communities and help build trust and understanding. Whether you're developing a strategic campaign, writing an executive speech or producing digital content, you understand how to tailor messaging for different audiences and channels.

You are curious, people-focused and naturally collaborative. You enjoy building relationships, uncovering story opportunities and working with stakeholders to bring ideas to life. You're equally comfortable partnering with senior leaders, subject matter experts, community organisations and external creative partners.

Organised, adaptable and proactive, you thrive in a fast-paced environment and can balance multiple priorities while maintaining a high standard of work. Most importantly, you're someone who rolls up their sleeves, contributes wherever needed and enjoys being part of a team working towards a common goal.

You'll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Significant experience in journalism, content creation, communications, media, content publishing or digital storytelling.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering integrated communication campaigns across multiple channels and audiences.
  • Experience managing websites, digital content, social media channels and content publishing platforms.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and storytelling capability, with the ability to translate complex topics into engaging and accessible content.
  • Experience building relationships with senior stakeholders and working across large and complex organisations.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Highly regarded

  • A background in journalism, news media, publishing or editorial content.
  • Experience within sustainability, infrastructure, aviation, government or community-focused organisations.
  • Experience creating video and multimedia content.
