What is the position? 

The Communications Manager shall be a leader, problem solver, collaborator, and excellent communicator. He or she shall be responsible for managing the strategic and tactical communications efforts of the contract. The Communications Manager shall be responsible for governance and management of the Communications Team, as well as coordinate outstanding client management. He or she shall develop and manage a strategic communication plan, to include requests in support of Congressional or Federal agency executive leadership communications. The preferred candidate would be experienced with the Dept of Veteran Affairs requests and SAFe Agile Methodology.

What will I get to do?

  • Manages communications personnel and ensures the Communications Team is staffed with qualified resources to meet client project delivery expectations.

  • Collaborate with client management personnel and business owners/stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership to plan and prepare quarterly leadership meetings, developing engaging and informative content 

  • Develop relationships with organizational stakeholders to promote the internal communication function, services, and resources.

  • Manage development and delivery of assigned project reports and deliverables. 

  • Create strategic communication points products (factsheets, presentations, white papers, good news stories) that highlight the value and innovation of our work to internal and external audiences.

  • Communicate with team senior management on daily, weekly basis 

  • Assign and evaluate work from the Communications Team. 

  • Develop and manage a strategic communication plan and manage other technical writers in its execution.

  • Monitor progress against the communications plan, as well as identify and mitigate risks.

  • Review deliverables to ensure conformance to the quality management plan.

  • Project management of internal communications initiatives, including measurement of initiatives’ success.

  • Continually review best practices for internal communication and engagement.

  • Collaborate with fellow internal communications contributors to publish content to company channels.

  • Assist with various media and channels, including the intranet, email, video, audio, print, FAQs, presentations, talking points, social media, and more.

 
What qualifications do I need? 

  • 10 years of relevant experience

  • Bachelor's Degree (Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business or related scientific /technical discipline)

  • 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education

  • Experience managing Information Technology related projects, and well versed in life cycle and project management methodologies.

  • Experience in tracking costs, schedule and performance progress, and able to identify and mitigate risks.

  • Proficient in common technology solutions used in communications, i.e. O365 apps such as Visio, SharePoint, PowerPoint, etc.

  • Able to pass a background check to obtain a VA Public Trust Tier II (Moderate Risk) clearance.

 
What additional characteristics will help me thrive?

  • Education and training in Public Relations and Communication

  • Experience working with the Federal Government, to include military service in the Armed Forces of the United States.

  • Experience working in the Department of Veterans Affairs.

  • Experience working with requests in support of Congressional or Federal agency executive leadership communications.

  • Willingness to travel to Cognosante HQ in Falls Church, VA, at least once every 3 months. Non-local travel would be reimbursed.

  • Experience with Section 508 Accessibility,

  • Experienced in SAFe Agile Methodology.

Compensation

$91,242.70 - $150,555.93

The pay range for this job is determined by various factors, including but not necessarily limited to location, responsibilities of the job, and alignment with market data. When determining a salary for this role, the following factors may be taken into consideration - contract-specific affordability, education, knowledge, skills, competencies and experience. The estimate displayed represents the salary range for this position and is just one component of Cognosante’s total compensation package for employees. It is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, nor a promise of any specific pay for any specific employee.
