Job Description

Are you a dedicated professional ready to join a high-performing, collaborative team as the vital first link in campus safety?  We are seeking Communications Officers to serve as the heartbeat of our daily operations and the cohesive support nucleus for all campus emergency operations. In this role, you will perform a full range of emergency dispatch duties while working in unison with numerous divisions across campus to facilitate safety responses. The Impact You Will Make:

  • Collaborative Crisis Response: You will be the first point of contact for the University community, triaging 9-1-1 and administrative calls while working in close proximity with team members to ensure seamless service.
  • Tactical Coordination: You will utilize radio communications to dispatch police, fire, and EMS, maintaining active tracking to ensure the safety of field units and supporting your colleagues during active incidents.
  • Data Integrity & Technical Support: You will serve as a technical resource, querying localized and national databases to provide critical information to patrol officers, ensuring team-wide data integrity within the CAD system.
  • Shared Safety Monitoring: You will monitor campus alarm systems and surveillance technology (CCTV) to collaboratively identify risks and support public safety operations.
  • Unified Community Engagement: You will provide premier customer service at our service window, assisting visitors and partnering with other University departments to solve problems.

Qualifications

What We Are Looking For:

  • Experience: 1 to 2 years of emergency dispatching or high-volume customer service experience is preferred but not required.
  • Education: A high school diploma or GED.
  • Team-Focused Traits: We are looking for individuals who can maintain calm in high-stress situations, possess strong multitasking abilities, strong typing/writing skills, and demonstrate a commitment to fostering comradery and mutual respect within the center.
  • Collaborative Proficiency: Ability to obtain IDACS and EMD certifications (through provided training) and a drive to work toward the shared vision of the agency.
