Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for an accomplished Commercial Director to lead the commercial function across our NSW/ACT region, partnering with senior business leaders to drive commercial excellence, manage risk, and enable the successful delivery of major projects and programs. Partnering closely with regional leadership, Market Leaders, bid teams and legal counsel, you will provide strategic commercial advice on major pursuits, bids and contract negotiations, helping GHD balance opportunity, risk and commercial position before contracts are signed.  This is a strategic leadership role that combines high-level commercial oversight with hands-on support for complex and elevated risk opportunities across a diverse portfolio of infrastructure, property, energy, water, environment and transportation projects.

As a trusted advisor to Regional and Market leadership teams, you will shape commercial strategy for pursuits strengthen governance around bid and contract review, and build commercial capability across the business.  You will lead a team of commercial professionals while influencing key decisions that protect GHD’s interests, support sustainable growth, and improve our ability to secure quality work with the right commercial settings.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:

  • Leading the commercial strategy, governance framework and risk management approach for the NSW/ACT region, with a strong focus on front-end pursuits, bids and contract negotiations
  • Working closely with bid teams and legal counsel to facilitate contract negotiation, resolve commercial issues early, and support the business to win work on sustainable terms.
  • Partnering with regional leadership, Market Leaders and Client Relationship Managers to guide commercial decision-making through pursuit strategy, bid/no-bid considerations, pricing, risk and contract position.
  • Driving continuous improvement across commercial systems, governance and project controls while supporting the resolution of complex contractual and commercial matters before and after award.
  • Leading, developing and mentoring a high-performing commercial team while fostering greater commercial capability across the broader business.

What would you bring to the team?

  • Tertiary qualifications in law, commerce, engineering, construction management or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience leading commercial, contractual and risk management functions within professional services, engineering, construction or major project environments, with substantial exposure to bid, pursuit and contract negotiation activity.
  • Demonstrated success providing strategic commercial leadership across complex pursuits and project portfolios, particularly in major infrastructure or professional services delivery models.
  • Exceptional commercial acumen, negotiation and influencing capability, with experience advising executive stakeholders on complex contractual, commercial and business decisions.
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams while fostering strong stakeholder relationships and a culture of commercial excellence.

Skills Required
