About Retail

Ampol Retail is one of Australia’s largest convenience and fuel networks. We serve millions of customers each year - whether they’re fuelling up, grabbing coffee, or picking up dinner on the go.

Our people are at the heart of what we do. From frontline teams to support roles, we focus on simple, friendly service that makes life easier for our customers - wherever their journey takes them.

About the role

This will be an 18 month contract to provide commercial analysis and governance across the EG integration to protect sales, gross margin and supplier income as the Foodary promotional program is rolled out across the EG and Foodary networks.

The role will validate promotional commercials, funding and execution assumptions; safeguard commercial outcomes through range alignment; and provide clear, data-led recommendations to prevent value erosion in EG branded network. Working closely with Merchandise, Finance, Marketing, Operations, and Supply Chain, the Commercial Analyst will maintain transparent controls, identify risks and opportunities, and support timely integration decisions.

Key responsibilities

  • Model and validate promotional economics before approval, including sales uplift, gross margin, supplier funding, cannibalisation, waste and execution costs across both networks.
  • Maintain governance controls and audit process for promotional assumptions, approvals, timelines, funding commitments and price files.
  • Identify and escalate promotions that dilute EG profitability, create unfunded exposure or cannot be executed consistently across the combined network.
  • Reconcile supplier funding and promotional income to agreed terms, ensuring claims are raised, collected and variances resolved.
  • Establish the EG baseline by store cluster and category, covering sales, units, gross margin, rate of sale, waste and supplier income.
  • Assess proposed range changes against the baseline and quantify value at risk, including delists, substitutions, space changes, regional needs and supply constraints.
  • Recommend retain, test, replace or remove decisions so range alignment does not reduce customer relevance or commercial performance in EG stores.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Business, Commerce or a related discipline.
  • Desirable: CA, CPA or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Experience in commercial analysis, commercial finance, category management or a related role.
  • Experience building financial models, evaluating promotions or ranges, and translating analysis into commercial recommendations.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to assess revenue, gross margin, supplier income, cost, cash and return implications.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling capability, including scenario and sensitivity analysis.
  • Desirable: Retail, convenience or FMCG experience and exposure to business integration or transformation.

Benefits

  • We are flexible. Many of our teams have embraced hybrid work, balancing time spent remote working, with time spent at an office to connect and work together where it adds value.
  • We value recognition.  We have an internal recognition platform amplifying the achievements of those who do great work and demonstrate our capabilities and values.
  • Career development and learning opportunities including LinkedIn Learning and other tailored training solutions.
