Hours: 5am – until complete.  Start and end times may vary. Tues work may be required. Including Holiday’s. 

Work schedule may be subject to change based upon production needs.

Applicants with previous agricultural or production experience will be considered preferred.  Applicant must have at least six consecutive months of work experience with the same employer and no additional gaps in employment greater than six months with the last 36 months.  If applicant was laid-off, providing eldercare or childcare, the six month gap will be increased to 18 months.  Previous work history criteria will not apply to applicants who have been full time students consecutively for the last 36 months.

Position Summary

  • This position is responsible for processing chicks, cleaning/sanitizing of the processing areas, cleaning/sanitizing of chick boxes and equipment by preforming all essential duties.     Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Transfers and grades chicks.  (25%)
  • Operate robot to vaccinate, beak trim birds per customer order.  (25%)
  • Operates high pressure hose to wash down and sanitize rooms and equipment.  (25%)
  • Stack and move boxes of processed chicks.  (15%)
  • Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.  Such as: packing eggs as needed, maintains a clean and organized work area, Operating box wash machine and dumping of eggs.   (10%)

Biosecurity/Animal Welfare/Safety Requirements:

  • The jobsite is a biosecure environment which requires showering, changing clothing and footwear before entering the facility.  Appropriate clothing and footwear is provided by the Company.  No jewelry may be worn on the jobsite except for medical ID jewelry and body piercings covered by appropriate clothing.  Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species (chickens, ducks, birds, etc.). Must be willing to sign and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Company Animal Welfare Guidelines.

The successful candidate(s) must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Physical:  Must use safe lifting techniques.  Must regularly lift and stack chick boxes (wheeled dolly) weighing up to 12 pounds and will occasionally be required to push or pull stacks of chicks weighing up 125 pounds.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk majority of shift (concrete floor); sit; use hands to handle or feel objects and controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; climbing/ladder usage; talk or hear; drive a vehicle within the farm complex.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Tools and Equipment: Scissors, Toe Trimming machine and Robot.
  • Personal Protective Equipment Required:  Safety goggles, face shield, chemical gloves, waterproof apron, and rubber boots are required.  Ear plugs will be used as required.   NIOSH approved N95 particulate respirators will be worn as needed. 
  • Chemicals Commonly Used:  Disinfectants such as Synergize, Lysol, bleach, etc.
  • Environment:  Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also work in hot, dry, dusty, wet, icy, snowy and cold environments.
  • Safety: TM is expected to follow all applicable safety policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, LOTO and Personal Protective Equipment.  TM is expected to identify, address and mitigate safety related risks.
