The CNC Machinist is responsible for independently programming, setting up, and operating CNC machinery to produce precision components. This position requires proficiency of machining practices, tooling, toolpaths, and programming, with the ability to create, edit, and optimize CNC programs with minimal assistance. The Level 4 Machinist ensures efficient, accurate, and high-quality production while supporting process improvement initiatives.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Independently create and edit CNC programs from engineering drawings and CAM models.
  • Perform complete set-ups on CNC equipment, including loading programs, installing tooling, and adjusting fixtures/work-holding devices.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of cutting tools, toolpaths, feeds, and speeds to optimize machining operations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machining or programming issues with minimal guidance.
  • Conduct first-piece inspections and verify in-process quality using precision measurement tools.
  • Optimize machining processes for efficiency, tool life, and part quality.
  • Maintain accurate set-up documentation, programs, and records.
  • Adhere to safety and quality standards, maintaining a clean and organized work environment.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for efficiency and quality.
  • Accurately record production data, quality checks, and other required documentation.

 Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in CNC machining preferred.
  • 5+ years of CNC machining experience, including demonstrated set-up capability.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency with CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, or equivalent). 
  • G-code programming required
  • Strong knowledge of cutting tools, toolpaths, feeds, and speeds across various materials.
  • Advanced understanding of machining principles, fixtures, and work-holding techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, drawings, and GD&T requirements.
  • Skilled in the use of precision measurement instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, indicators).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve programming and machining issues independently.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
