The CNC Machinist plays a pivotal role on the Operations team. As Armstrong continues to grow in manufacturing capacity and efficiency, we are looking for a dependable and hard-working individual who will be responsible for machining our products, contributing ideas to improve efficiencies, and adhering to all health and safety policies and best practices.

This position is based out of Scarborough, Ontario.

Key accountabilities of this position are:

  • Responsible for setup and operation of CNC Lathe and Mill machinery
  • Machine product to specified requirements as defined on Job Travelers, Drawings, and Sketches. Must be able to read blueprints and various symbols regarding tolerances, surface finishes, etc.
  • Pre-inspection of parts to ensure product compliance is achievable prior to metal removal process.
  • Verify tooling requirements are met in advanced of the commencement of each job. Escalate any issues/concerns to supervisor.
  • Machine product at optimal conditions to maintain cost effectiveness of machining process.
  • Ability to read and understand programs to a degree that will allow you to modify / edit to meet specified tolerances and surface finishes.
  • Enter codes specifying speeds, feed and cut of the tool path for CNC machine tools
  • Maintain tooling in peak conditions.
  • Verify dimensions of parts machined using precision measuring instruments as required.
  • Practice excellent general housekeeping, including but not limited to, his/her work area, chip removal, floor areas, benches, storage areas to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Perform daily machine checks per preventative maintenance program and safety procedures.
  • Use of overhead crane to setup and move parts.

What We're Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should bring:

  • Minimum 5-years' CNC Machining experience, consisting of machine setup & operation
  • General machinist certification an asset.
  • Working experience with large casings & fabricated components
  • An analytical approach to machining of product.
  • Ability to read & interpret blueprints, drawings, charts & tables.
  • A motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Previous experience working with overhead cranes considered an asset.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, conflict management within different organizations (centralized and matrix organizational structures.
  • Strong, team-oriented skills with the ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication, both written and verbal, in English

Range: $20-$23/hour

Skills Required

  • Minimum 5 years CNC machining experience, including machine setup and operation
  • Ability to set up and operate CNC lathe and mill machinery

  • Ability to read and modify CNC programs to meet specified tolerances and surface finishes
