This position supports Mesa's Protein Technologies business.  Gyros Protein Technologies provides automated systems for protein analysis and peptide synthesis solutions that accelerate the discovery, development, and manufacture of biotherapeutic drugs.

Job Summary

The Machine Operator II is a mid-level role responsible for operating and maintaining advanced machinery with minimal supervision. This position involves setting up, troubleshooting, and ensuring machines meet production standards while following safety and quality protocols. Mentor junior operators, assists with training, and participates in process improvement initiatives and performs routine maintenance and resolve moderate machine issues to maintain optimal performance.

Duties/Responsibilities

Advanced Machine Operation:

• Set up and operate more advanced production machinery, including CNC machines, presses, automated systems, packaging equipment, or other specialized machines according to job specifications.

• Continuously monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments (e.g., speed, pressure, temperature, material feeds) to ensure smooth and efficient production runs.

• Troubleshoot and resolve routine machine malfunctions, operational issues, or minor breakdowns. Work with maintenance or senior operators for more complex issues.


Quality Control and Inspection:

• Perform regular inspections of materials and finished products to ensure compliance with quality standards. Use measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.) to check product dimensions and specifications.

• Record quality control results, machine performance, and any discrepancies found during production. Report defects or quality issues to supervisors and assist in corrective actions.


Equipment Maintenance and Care:

• Perform preventive maintenance tasks on machines, including cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn parts to maintain peak machine performance.

• Assist with the calibration of machinery and adjust settings to ensure accuracy in the production process.

• Ensure an adequate supply of materials and parts is available to avoid production delays.


Production Efficiency and Output:

• Help achieve production goals by ensuring that machines run efficiently, and production quotas are met on time.

• Work with the production team to ensure a smooth workflow, helping minimize downtime or bottlenecks during production.

• Actively participate in process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve the overall quality of production.


Safety and Compliance:

• Adhere to all safety standards, including the proper use of PPE and following established safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.

• Ensure machines operate within industry standards and regulations (e.g., ISO, OSHA) and maintain a clean, organized workspace.


Training and Mentorship:

• Support the training of Machine Operator I (Level U1) personnel, providing guidance on machine setup, operation, and safety procedures.

• Share knowledge and best practices with less experienced team members, helping to develop their skills and ensure proper machine operation.

Experience/Education

• High School Diploma or equivalent.

• Minimum of 1 - 2 years of experience in machine operation, preferably in a manufacturing or production environment.

Knowledge & Skillsets Required

• High attention to detail to ensure machine settings are accurate and production standards are met.

• Ability to perform set-ups on multiple workstations on Haas CNC Mills

• Ability to operate Haas CNC Lathe

• Ability to diagnose and resolve operational or mechanical issues that arise during production.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with other team members, supervisors, and departments to ensure efficient operations.

• Strong organizational skills to manage machine setups, production runs, and downtime effectively.

• Willingness to learn new equipment and processes, and to adapt to changing production needs.
