DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an experienced, motivated, and technically proficient Cloud / Platform Engineering Manager to strategically lead and expand our platform engineering initiatives. This position requires a unique blend of advanced technical expertise in cloud infrastructure, automation strategies, container orchestration, and platform engineering, combined with strong leadership, collaboration, and strategic planning capabilities.

As the Cloud / Platform Engineering Manager, you will guide and support a highly talented team of engineers dedicated to building, deploying, maintaining, and continuously improving robust, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure solutions. Your leadership will directly influence the reliability, scalability, efficiency, and security posture of our cloud operations, driving strategic alignment with organizational objectives and ensuring technical excellence.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and expand a high-performing team of cloud and platform engineers, ensuring clear direction, individual professional growth, and overall team effectiveness.
  • Establish performance goals, conduct regular reviews, provide constructive feedback, and foster a positive, inclusive, collaborative team environment.

Strategic Architecture and Technical Direction:

  • Oversee the architectural design, implementation, and management of robust, scalable, and secure cloud solutions primarily focused on AWS infrastructure.
  • Define and maintain platform standards, guidelines, and reference architectures to ensure best practices, consistency, and reliability in cloud environments.

Automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC):

  • Lead automation initiatives utilizing Terraform and Ansible to streamline and standardize cloud resource provisioning, configuration management, and application deployment, achieving optimal operational efficiency and minimizing manual tasks.
  • Develop and enforce best practices for infrastructure automation, including version control, code reviews, and continuous integration processes.

Container Orchestration and Kubernetes Management:

  • Manage and optimize Kubernetes clusters, ensuring highly available, resilient, and scalable containerized applications and services.
  • Implement robust monitoring, alerting, and logging solutions to maintain proactive visibility into Kubernetes performance, scalability, and security.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with product development, software engineering, security, operations, and business teams to thoroughly understand their cloud platform requirements, translating these into actionable technical strategies and solutions.
  • Serve as a technical advisor and advocate, communicating complex cloud concepts clearly to diverse stakeholders.

Security, Compliance, and Risk Management:

  • Ensure rigorous adherence to industry best practices regarding cloud security, compliance standards, and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Regularly assess and remediate cloud-related risks, vulnerabilities, and incidents proactively to protect organizational assets.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation:

  • Continuously research, evaluate, and implement new technologies, tools, methodologies, and industry trends to improve operational effectiveness, scalability, cost-efficiency, and the overall quality of cloud platform delivery.
  • Cultivate a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and proactive problem-solving within the team.

Incident Management and Troubleshooting:

  • Act as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues related to cloud and platform engineering, driving troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and rapid issue resolution.
  • Lead the development and refinement of incident response and recovery procedures.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related technical discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Cloud Infrastructure, DevOps, or Platform Engineering, with at least 2 years in a technical management or leadership role.
  • Deep, hands-on technical experience designing, implementing, and managing cloud infrastructure on AWS, including EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, VPC, and related services.
  • Extensive expertise in infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tooling, especially Terraform, with a proven track record of successful deployment and management of cloud infrastructure at scale.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in configuration management and automation using Ansible.
  • Strong operational knowledge and extensive hands-on experience managing Kubernetes clusters, containerized workloads, and associated ecosystems.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining effective CI/CD pipelines leveraging tools such as Jenkins, Argo CD, GitHub Actions, or similar solutions.
  • Exceptional leadership skills, including coaching, mentoring, performance management, and the ability to build cohesive, collaborative, high-performing teams.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively across technical and business stakeholder groups.
  • Strong analytical skills, with demonstrated problem-solving abilities and proactive issue resolution capabilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant AWS certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect (Associate/Professional) or AWS DevOps Engineer (Professional).
  • Experience implementing robust monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, ELK Stack, or CloudWatch.
  • Familiarity with Agile and DevOps methodologies and workflows, including experience working in iterative, collaborative, and high-velocity delivery environments.
