Who You Will Work With:
Reporting to the Leader, Cloud Operations, the Cloud Operations Intern will work as part of Interac’s Cloud infrastructure and engineering team to operate, enhance and secure Interac's cloud services. As part of the Cloud Operations team, this intern will work under guidance from a Technical Lead, Cloud Operations and can expect to collaborate together with technical colleagues to solve problems through innovative and creative thinking, leveraging automation and tooling to deliver key outcomes for our Cloud workloads. This an excellent opportunity to develop knowledge and experience across multiple technology domains (including Enterprise Cloud, Platforms, DevOps, Agile) and operate in a fast paced environment delivering payment systems that Canadians rely on every day.
What You Will Do:
Support the Cloud Operations team in maintaining and improving AWS-based cloud infrastructure, monitoring systems, and operational reliability across lower and production-like environments
Assist with day-to-day operational activities including infrastructure monitoring, incident investigation, log analysis, deployment validation, and operational health checks for cloud-native platforms and services
Contribute to automation and DevOps initiatives by working with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), CI/CD pipelines, scripting, and operational documentation to improve efficiency and reduce manual effort
Collaborate with engineers, SREs, and platform teams to support cloud migrations, platform upgrades, security compliance activities, and environment readiness initiatives
Participate in operational reviews, troubleshooting sessions, and continuous improvement activities while gaining exposure to enterprise-scale cloud operations and reliability engineering practices
Prepare documentation and reporting to support Cloud services and processes
Preparing design documents for cloud deployments and maintenance.
What You Bring:
Currently enrolled in a university or college program in a relevant discipline, like computer science or similar field
Familiarity with system architecture and automation
Familiarity with scripting languages and cloud native technologies
Working knowledge of System architecture
Working knowledge of automation
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Familiarity with scripting languages
Familiarity with cloud native technologies
Proactive critical thinker, with strong analytical and problem skills – you enjoy continuously improving redundant or inefficient processes
Comfortable troubleshooting and enjoy tackling challenging problems – you often utilize your creative thinking skills to come up with solutions
Comfortable with learning and working effectively either independently or with groups across different functions and levels
Confidence in your ability to communicate verbally and written in a detailed and impactful way
Experience with Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and continuous integration, delivery and deployment (CI/CD) tools
Experience with implementing security in public cloud environments
Although not required, you have some familiarity or previous experience with the following:
Building out cloud solutions
Infrastructure automation
Ansible and/or Terraform
What We’re Offering:
The hourly pay range for this position is $23 to $25, and the internship term runs from September to December 2026. The exact amount will depend on factors such as skills, experience, and job-related knowledge. An internship opportunity at Interac also features:
